SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The USD Softball team (16-16, 2-1) won the final game of their three-game series with Pacific 8-3 Sunday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex. Fueled by a five-run third inning, the Toreros clinched the series and improved their season record to 16-16. Megan Sabbatini tossed her second complete game in as many days, while Kailey Hill, Madison Casiano and Olivia Sandusky each notched two RBI.
The Tigers tallied four hits in the first two innings, but couldn't score, stranding five runners.
The Toreros took advantage in the second. Lauren Kane led off the inning with a double to the gap and two batters later Madison Casiano brought her home with a single to center, giving USD an early 1-0 lead.
USD sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on five hits, all coming with two outs. Taylor Spence got things started with an infield single, she then scored on an Olivia Sandusky double down the left field line. A pair of walks would load the bases for Kailey Hill, who roped a double to the right center gap to plate two more Toreros. Madison Casiano and Frankie Perales then recorded back-to-back RBI singles to bring the score to 6-0 USD.
The Toreros added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Taylor Spence brought home Sarah Stone, who hit a pinch hit single, with a single to center.
The Tigers got on the board in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of Torero errors to score two runs. They would add one more in the sixth on an RBI fielder's choice with the bases loaded.
USD tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with an Olivia Sandusky RBI infield single.
Megan Sabbatini (7-8) earned her second win of the weekend, tossing a complete game. She allowed just one earned run on nine hits while striking out six.
The Toreros continue WCC play next weekend, travelling to Saint Mary's for a three game series beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m.
