2017 USD Volleyball Schedule

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of San Diego volleyball Head Coach Jennifer Petrie has released the 2017 Torero volleyball schedule, which is highlighted by matches against perennial powers UCLA, Hawaii and Texas, as well as four other opponents who appeared in the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

"I am excited to announce our competitive 2017 fall schedule," Petrie said. "Our preseason is loaded with top-20 match-ups both home and away. The challenge of a competitive schedule will prepare us for a WCC Championship run as well as a deep run into the NCAA tournament."

The Toreros will be tested in the first weekend of play when they travel across the Pacific to play in a tournament hosted by the University of Hawaii. USD will play three 2016 NCAA teams in three days beginning August 25 against UCLA, who advanced to the Elite Eight a year ago. The following day, the Toreros take on the host school, Hawaii, before finishing the tournament against Marquette (Aug. 27).

"The team is excited to open the 2017 season at Hawaii," Petrie explained. "We have had success in their tournament in the past and we are hoping for the same good fortune this year."

USD will host a tournament the following weekend, welcoming Villanova, Georgia Tech, and Texas, the 2016 NCAA national-runner up. The Toreros host Georgia Tech for their home opener September 1 and then take on Villanova and Texas the following day.

The Toreros' final preseason tournament will be at Utah where they will take on the Utes, Missouri, who made the Sweet 16 in 2016, and Wisconsin Green-Bay.

USD's final non-conference match will be September 12 when they host cross-town rival San Diego State. The Toreros begin conference play September 21 on the road when they head to the Bay Area to take on San Francisco and then Santa Clara (Sept. 23). Three days later, USD hosts LMU for their WCC home opener September 26.

The Toreros' biggest WCC home match will be September 30 when they take on last year's WCC champion, BYU.

After another trip to the Bay Area to play Pacific (Oct. 5) and Saint Mary's (Oct. 7), the Toreros return home to take on Gonzaga (Oct. 12) and Portland (Oct. 14).

Their next three matches will be on the road: Loyola Marymount (Oct. 19), Pepperdine (Oct. 21) and BYU (Oct. 27).

Five of the Toreros' final seven regular season matches will be at home inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion. They host Saint Mary's November 2 and Pacific November 4. Their final road matches will be in the Northwest, taking on Portland November 9 and Gonzaga November 11. USD returns to the JCP for the home stretch, hosting Santa Clara (Nov. 16), San Francisco (Nov. 18) and Pepperdine (Nov. 21).

"As with every year, our goal is not only to win a conference championship, but also a national championship" Petrie stated. "By playing a rigorous schedule, we will be prepared for any opponent we may face in the NCAA tournament."
