FULLERTON, Calif. â€" A goal by Miguel Berry in the 45th minute secured a 1-1 draw for San Diego on Sunday evening at Fullerton.

The Toreros (3-3-1) held advantages in shots (13-10) and corner kicks (7-6) but could not generate the deciding goal.

USD faced an early deficit after Fullerton scored on its first shot of the game in the 14th minute. The Titans' Diego Sanchez sent a corner kick into the box that found the head for Ross McPhie who finished his opportunity to give Fullerton an early 1-0 lead.

It was the second consecutive game the Toreros allowed a header goal off a corner kick to its opponent on their first shot of the game.

The Toreros leveled the score just before halftime when Berry jumped on a loose ball in the box after a corner kick and scored his team-leading third goal of the season.

The Toreros continued to press forward in the second half and Berry nearly scored the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute when he created space near the top of the 18 and fired a rocket of a shot on frame. His shot curled around his defender but Fullerton's goalkeeper, Alfredo Cortez, made a diving stop to his left to deny Berry.

Thomas Olsen was excellent in goal, making three saves on 10 shots. His best stop came early in the second half when Fullerton headed a shot on frame from six yards out and he got his body in front of the shot to make the save.

USD's defense â€" which was missing its starting outside fullback Josiah Benjamin due to a red card in the previous match â€" played well and limited the amount of dangerous opportunities in the center of the field.

Quality opportunities were sparse in the two overtime periods as each team pressed forward cautiously.

San Diego will look to get back in the win column next week when it plays host to CSUN on Thursday at 7 p.m. (PT) and travels to San Jose State on Sunday at 3 p.m.
