SAN DIEGO -- Freddy Polzer and Miguel Berry teamed up for a pair of goals less than four minutes apart to propel San Diego to a 2-0 victory against CSUN on Thursday night.

Polzer and Berry scored a goal apiece and each provided the assist on the other's goal.

After a scoreless first half, Polzer broke the tie in the 57th minute when a hard shot by Berry was saved by Matadors (5-3) goalkeeper, Henrik Regitnig. The rebound was pushed toward the right side of the penalty spot.

Polzer was hustling toward goal from his position in the midfield and beat his defender to the ball to get the Toreros (4-3-1) on the board.

The duo connected again in the 61st minute when Polzer sent a soft but perfectly placed cross to the head of Berry in the center of the box. Berry provided the power and headed a shot past the goalkeeper and into the left side of the goal to put USD up, 2-0.

Miguel Berry scored his fourth goal of the season to seal the victory for San Diego.

The Toreros defense played excellent throughout the game and posted its third shutout of the season. Josiah Benjamin and Henry Lander had particularly strong games in the centerback positions, as CSUN primarily tried attacking through the center portion of the field.

Thomas Olsen made five saves in goal, including three in the first half on hard shots. Olsen's best save was on the first shot of the game in the 4th minute. CSUN's Michael Flores tried to sneak a shot into the near post from the left side of the field but Olsen was ready and made a diving stop to push the ball away from goal with his right hand.

USD will look to carry the momentum into Sunday's 3 p.m. road match at San Jose State.
