The USD women's tennis team hosted the Oregon Ducks at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center today and came away with a tough 6-1 loss. Despite Gemma Garcia and Carolin Nonnenmacher teaming up at No. 3 doubles to defeat Paiton Wagner and Nia Rose 6-3, the Ducks won at No. 1 and No. 2 to earn the doubles point.
In singles play Maria-Paula Torres earned a solid 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles over Rifanty Kahfiani to get the match within 2-1, but the Ducks closed out the match with four straight singles victories. The deciding match came at No 3 singles with Oregon's Shweta Sangwan handing Kait Kukaras a 6-4, 6-2 decision. Nicole Anderson and No. 1 singles and Gemma Garcia at No. 4 singles each went three sets before falling.
The Toreros are off until February when they head to Arizona to take on Grand Canyon College (Feb. 2, 10:00 a.m.) and the University of Arizona (Feb. 3, 10:00 a.m.).
