SAN DIEGO, Calif. â€" The USD women's basketball team (9-6, 2-2) fell to Saint Mary's 75-53 Saturday afternoon inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Toreros were led by Aubrey Ward-El, who scored 12 points.

The Toreros' bench outscored Saint Mary's 26-6. Aside from Ward-El's 12 points, Caroline Buhr had 10 with seven rebounds and Ana Ramos and Alexandria Young each chipped in eight

The Gaels were efficient all day and finished the game shooting 64 percent from the floor. Saint Mary's went up by five points early in the first quarter and never trailed again.

USD was hampered by 15 first half fouls and trailed by eight points entering the second quarter before the Gaels pushed their lead to 15 points in the final minute of the first half. Ana Ramos hit a three pointer with 41 seconds left to bring the score to 40-28, which would be the halftime score.

The Toreros scored the first basket of the third quarter to cut the deficit to ten, but that would be as close as they would get and trailed by double-digits for the remainder of the game.

The Toreros outrebounded the Gaels 31-30, forced10? turnovers and only gave up two three-pointers.

The Toreros return to action on Thursday when they host Pacific at 6:00 p.m.
