SPOKANE, Wash. – San Diego held off Gonzaga to secure a 1-0 victory and improve to 1-1 in conference play on Friday night.

Miguel Berry scored his fourth goal of the season with an assist from
Gustav Ericsson in the 60th minute to give the Toreros (5-6-2, 1-1 WCC) the lead and their first conference win.

Berry found the back of the net for the second straight match when Ericsson sent a quick pass to set him up perfectly for a right-to-left shot from the top of the box.Â

Reuben Dass lead the offense with three shots, including two in the first three minutes of the contest. His best chance came in the 64th minute when he sent a shot from the left side of the penalty box towards the opposite post, but the Zags goalkeeper made a diving save to deflect the ball.

 The Bulldogs (2-8-2, 0-2 WCC) controlled the ball for much of the first half, but San Diego's defense would not relent.Â

Josiah Benjamin and
Henry Lander played a strong match for the Toreros on the back line, intercepting several dangerous cross-field passes by Gonzaga and helping to shutout the Bulldogs.

Matt Wiher was credited with three saves in goal for the Toreros, including a leaping save in the 30th minute when the Zags' Mark McEntosh sent a strong shot from the top of the box.

Gonzaga outshot San Diego, 10-9, and held the advantage in corner kicks (4-3) and saves (4-3). However, the Toreros had the advantage in shots on goal, 5-3, including the game winner.Â

The Toreros remain on the road this weekend when they travel to Portland to face the No. 7 Pilots on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
