SAN DIEGO – The San Diego varsity eight won the San Diego Fall Classic while all other crews placed second.
Â
The Toreros won by less than a second over UC San Diego, a small margin that is a rare occurrence in fall racing.
Â
"To win by less than a second over approximately five thousand meters is about as close as it gets in our sport," said head coach Brooks Dagman. "A single mistake in a race as close as this one would change the outcome."
Â
The second eight, freshman eight, freshman four and open four all placed second in their events.
Â
The second eight finished just behind UC San Diego.
Â
The freshman eight behind Orange Coast College.
Â
The open four finished nine seconds behind OCC but ahead of 12 other crews.
Â
And the freshman four lost only to ASU, and ahead of Long Beach, Arizona B, Long Beach B and UCLA.
Â
"With strong showings across the results board, the squad should be feeling proud of their efforts this weekend," said Dagman.
Â
The Fall Classic marked the final fall race for the Toreros. They will return to race at home in February. Â
