SAN DIEGO – San Diego plays host to Grand Canyon in its final nonconference game on Saturday at 7 p.m. PT.
 
The Toreros (10-4) return to action after going 1-1 at the Las Vegas Classic this past weekend. USD defeated Washington State, 82-75, but were fell to Drake in double-overtime, 110-103.
 
The game will be streamed on TheW.tv and broadcast on the ESPN 1700AM App with Jack Cronin on the call. Live statistics will be available via USDToreros.com.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego held a three-point lead with 10 seconds remaining in regulation but could not hold on late, falling to Drake 110-103 in double-overtime this past Sunday at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
 
• It was a tough finish for the Toreros (10-4) which led for over 37 minutes of the 50 minutes played.
 
• With the Toreros leading 83-80, the Bulldogs (10-2) Brady Ellingson hit a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime. The 3-pointer capped a remarkable final run by Drake in which they hit seven of their final eight shots of the second half, including three triples in the final two minutes.
 
• USD held another lead with less than 10 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, 93-92, but sent Anthony Murphy to the free throw line with four seconds remaining. He converted one of two from the line to knot the game at 93-93. The Toreros were unable to get a shot off in the final four seconds and the game went to a second overtime period.
 
• The Toreros were outscored 17-10 in the second overtime with the Bulldogs recording 10 of their 17 points from the free throw line.
 
• Drake's Nick Norton provided one of the final blows to the Toreros when he banked in a 3-point attempt as the shot clock expired with 2:14 remaining to take a 103-100 lead. The Bulldogs remained in front the rest of the game.
 
• A pair of free throws by Olin Carter III with 13 seconds remaining made it a three-point game, 106-103, but that was as close as the Toreros would get. Norton hit four consecutive free throws for the Bulldogs to seal the 110-103 decision.
 
• Carter III was clutch late for the Toreros scoring 28 of his season-high 30 points in the second half and overtime periods. He accounted for 11 of USD's 20 points in the overtime periods.
 
• Isaiah Wright also registered a season high in points with 25. He did most of his damage in the first half when he dropped 16 – his most in a half this season. Wright also contributed a team-high six assists and played 48 of a possible 50 minutes.
 
• Isaiah Pineiro added 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting and led the Toreros with eight rebounds.
 
•  Pineiro and Carter III were named to the Las Vegas Classic All-Tournament Team.
 
•  Yauhen Massalski chipped in 12 points to tie his season high and most since Nov. 15 against San Diego Christian.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. GRAND CANYON
• USD is 10-10 all-time against Grand Canyon and has won each of the past three meetings, including last year's contest – a 70-59 decision in Phoenix, Arizona.
 
•  Yauhen Massalski and Isaiah Pineiro scored 17 points apiece to lead USD to a 72-62 victory last year. The Toreros improved to 5-0 on the season and were off to their best start since the 2013-14 season.
 
HOT STARTS FOR PINEIRO AND CARTER III
• Isaiah Pineiro led the Toreros in scoring in eight-of-14 games and Olin Carter III has led USD in five games.
 
•  Pineiro is averaging 20.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He is also averaging 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Pineiro is shooting 55 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range.
 
• Carter III is averaging 17.3 points per game and is shooting 48 percent from the field. He has been one of USD's most dangerous shooter from behind the arc, connecting on 35 percent of his 3-point attempts. Carter III is also contributing 2.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.
 
WRIGHT HEATING UP
• Wright started the season well but has excelled in the second half of the year so far. In the past nine games, he his shooting 46 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3-point range, and averaging 15.4 points, 5.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals.
 
• Wright is contributing 13.2 points, 5.0 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game on the season.
 
NUMBERS UP FOR MASSALSKI
•  Yauhen Massalski increased nearly every offensive and defensive numbers through the first six games this season. He was averaging 8.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 blocks and is shooting 70 percent from the field. (2017-18 » 4.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.3 bpg, 65 FG pct.)
 
•  Massalski was limited to three minutes of playing time in the Toreros seventh game of the season at Ole Miss due to injury. He returned to action Dec. 12 at Oregon when he came off the bench and played 16 minutes.
 
•  Massalski had his best game since returning from injury against Drake (Jan. 23) when he contributed 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting and four rebounds.
 
BALANCED PLAY BY WILLIAMS
• Tyler Williams does a little of everything for the Toreros on both sides of the floor. He is averaging 9.0 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists. He holds a 3.4 assists to turnover ratio.
 
EFFICIENCY IS KEY FOR FLORESCA
• Through the first six games of the season, Alex Floresca was one of the Toreros most efficient players. He was averaging 6.2 points and 3.3 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per game. He shot 71 percent (15-of-21) from the field and was 3-of-5 (60 percent) from behind the arc.
 
• His minutes significantly increased with the injury to Massalski and has averaged 26.0 minutes in the past eight games. On the season, Floresca is averaging 6.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 21.7 minutes.
 
FINISHING STRONG
• USD has outscored opponents 580-503 during the second half this season. The Toreros are shooting 51 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range during second halves this season. They are holding opponents to 45 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the arc.
 
NARROW DEFEATS ON THE ROAD
• All four losses this year have come away from home by 10 points or less. USD's first two losses this year were by a combined 10 points, dropping a 66-63 decision at Washington and falling 93-86 at Ole Miss. The Toreros lost 65-55 on the road at Oregon, and dropped a neutral site game in double-overtime to Drake, 110-103.
 
PAC-12 SCHEDULE
• The Toreros traveled to Washington on Nov. 12 (L, 66-63) and played host to Colorado on Nov. 20 (W, 70-64). USD traveled to Oregon on Dec. 12 (L, 65-55) and played a neutral site game against Washington State on Dec. 22 (W, 82-75) in Las Vegas, Nevada, as part of the Las Vegas Classic.
