SANTA CLARA, Calif. â€" Despite a season-high 18 points from senior Cameron Neubauer, the Toreros suffered a 70-64 loss at Santa Clara today. Bronco guard KJ Feagin had a big day as he finished with 32 points to help the Broncos overcome a double-digit deficit early in the second half and rally for the victory. The Toreros (16-10, 7-7 WCC) now return home for two games against Pacific (Thur., Feb. 15, 7:00 p.m.) and BYU (Sat., Feb. 17, 1:00 p.m.).

In the first half the Toreros took a 36-27 lead into the halftime break. Neubauer gave the Toreros a big lift with 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field including 3-of-5 beyond the arc. USD's first double-digit lead in the game came on a Neubauer three-pointer with 6:19 left in the period to make the score 27-17. San Diego hit 8 of 10 field-goals midway through the half to build a 29-19 lead with Neubauer scoring nine straight points in 1-minute, 30-second span. With 48 seconds left in the first half his three-pointer gave USD a 36-25 cushion before Feagin scored on lay-up with four ticks left for the 36-27 intermission score.

In the second half the Broncos used a 14-2 run to take their first lead of the game on a Kai Healy lay-in with 12:58 left for a 41-40 advantage. Josip Vrankic added a three-pointer to push it to 44-40. Santa Clara would eventually take a 55-46 lead before the Toreros rallied back to edge ahead 56-55 on a lay-up by Isaiah Wright with 3:58 to go. The game had five lead changes and two ties over the final four minutes.

After Isaiah Piniero's layup gave San Diego a 60-59 lead with 2:16 remaining, Feagin fed Vrankic for a 3-pointer on the left wing and the Broncos held onto the lead from there. USD made only two of their final six field-goals attempts following Pineiro's bucket and the Broncos were able to connect on all six free throws in the final 25 seconds. Neither team led by more than one point between Wright's layup with 3:58 left and Vrankic's 3-pointer.

For the game Wright (16 points, 7 rebounds) and Pineiro (12 points, 7 rebounds) followed Neubauer. Wright also had a team-best five assists. USD shot 44.6% from the field (25-56) but made just 5-of-20 threes. The Broncos shot 53 percent from the floor in the game and Feagin had 16 points in each half.
