SAN DIEGO - Joel Gamerov and Alex Araouzos won their singles matches but San Diego was unable to rally after an early deficit, falling to Washington 4-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Toreros (6-7) fell behind early, dropping the doubles point and the first singles point. Facing a 2-0 deficit, USD won the next two matches in quick succession to level the score at 2-2.

The tie would not last long, however, as the Huskies (9-7) sealed victories at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions to claim the 4-2 decision.

"We are a young team and this was a young loss," said head coach Ryan Keckley. "We are still learning how to manage ourselves and our teammates on court. We weren't as tough as we needed to be in certain spots but these kinds of experiences will only help us grow and keep us moving in the right direction."

Gamerov made quick work Enzo Sommer at the No. 3 spot with a, 6-4, 6-2, win. He improved to 4-4 on the season when playing in the third position.

Araouzos snapped a seven-match losing streak with a convincing, 6-3, 6-2, victory against Piers Foley at the No. 5 position. He is 3-2 when playing at the fifth position this year.

David Norfeldt had a nice showing at the No. 4 spot against Amit Batta. After dropping a tough first set in which he led for a majority of the time, 7-5, Norfeldt rallied to win the second, 6-3. The match was halted tied at 1-1 when the Huskies earned the match-deciding point on court one.

Nico Borter and Pratt Keerasuntonpong played well at the No. 2 doubles position but their match was stopped tied at 4-4 when Washington won the doubles-clinching point at the No. 1 spot.

USD will look to get back on track Saturday at 1 p.m. PT when it plays host to Denver.
