Toreros Head to the Lone Star State

San Diego plays Sam Houston State, No. 9 Texas A&M this weekend

SAN DIEGO – San Diego remains on the road to take on Sam Houston State and No. 9 Texas A&M this weekend.
 
The Toreros (0-1-1) open the weekend at the Bearkats (1-0-1) on Friday at 4:30 p.m. (PT). USD then travels to the Aggies (2-0) on Sunday at 4 p.m. Live stats will be available for both matches via USDToreros.com
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • USD played well but surrendered a goal in the 89th minute in a 1-0 defeat against Georgia on Sunday.
  • Goalkeeper Amber Michel started the season hot, holding off strong offensive efforts by the Bulldogs and the Hokies. Michel recorded 17 saves against the two teams.
  • Summer Mason was dangerous up top, registering a game-high seven shots against Georgia. Transfer Milan Moses added immediate impact to the offense, recording shots in both matches.
QUALITY DEFENDING
  • Michel had a stellar weekend in goal and registered career-high 13 stops against the Bulldogs. At Virginia Tech, she recorded four saves, two in double-overtime, to keep the Hokies scoreless.
  • The back line has played well to limit the opposition's attack and keep the Toreros within striking distance in each game.
OFFENSE FINDING ITS RHYTHM
  • The Toreros showed a strong offensive effort throughout the match against Virginia Tech, holding advantages against the Hokies in shots on goal 7-4, and corners, 8-5.
  • Mason and Moses have been the most dangerous targets up top. Mason led the team with 14 shots, four on goal, and Moses recorded seven shots, with six on goal.
SAM HOUSTON STATE SERIES HISTORY
  • This is the first time the Toreros will face Sam Houston State. The Bearkats are 1-0-1 this season. 
TEXAS A&M SERIES HISTORY
  • USD is 2-2-0 all-time against Texas A&M. In the teams last meeting at Torero Stadium, the Aggies earned a 2-0 victory in 2017.
