San Diego faces Utah Valley on Friday at Torero Stadium

Aug. 29, 2018

SAN DIEGO – San Diego will play its home opener against Utah Valley on Friday at 1 p.m. (PT), after two weeks on the road. The game will be streamed on TheW.TV and live statistics will be available.

LAST TIME OUT
  • USD (1-2-1) recorded its first win of the season against Sam Houston State on Friday, 2-0. Maddie Marotta scored the Toreros first goal of the season.
  • In the final minutes of the match, Milan Moses scored a goal from five yards out with an assist from Summer Mason, to secure a 2-0 win against the Bearkats.
  • The Toreros played tough against No. 9 Texas A&M on Sunday but fell short 3-0.
  • USD's defense did well to keep the team within striking distance for a majority of the match, holding the Aggies to one goal through 85 minutes.
  • Amber Michel made five saves, while Summer Mason and Moses paced the team with three shots apiece.
UTAH VALLEY SERIES HISTORY
  • This is the first time the Toreros will face Utah Valley in program history. The Wolverines are 0-2-1 this season.
QUALITY DEFENDING
  • Amber Michel has registered four or more saves in all four games, including a career-best 13 stops against Georgia (Aug. 19). She has helped the team record two shutouts this season.
  • The Toreros backline – consisting primarily of Emma Barrow, Kelley Carusa, and Mina Ghazizadeh - has played well to limit the opposition's attack and keep the Toreros within striking distance in each game.
FRESH LEGS
  • Moses, the sophomore transfer from SDSU, has made an immediate impact to offense. She leads the team in shots on goal, with 10 of her 15 shots this season on target.
  • Michaela Foster looks to contribute more to the back line, after playing in her first match for the Toreros on Sunday. She recently returned from her commitment to New Zealand's U20 national team that competed in the FIFA Women's U20 World Cup in France.
  • Freshman Madison Louderback has started in all four matches for the Toreros.
OFFENSE FINDING ITS RHYTHM
  • Moses and Mason have been the most dangerous up top. Mason leads the team with 24 shots and recorded an assist in the match against Sam Houston State.
  • Moses recorded her first goal and first assist for USD against the Bearkats.
