SAN DIEGO – San Diego returns to action after its bye week and begins Pioneer Football League play when it hosts Stetson on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT at Walter J. Zable Field at Torero Stadium.

The Toreros (1-2) will look to get back in the win column after dropping its past two games on the road at UC Davis and Harvard. USD will take on an undefeated Hatters (3-0, 1-0 PFL) team that is coming off a, 19-14, victory against Marist last week.

BRIAN FOGARTY PFL CLASSIC
• Saturday's game will be the second annual Brian Fogarty PFL Classic, honoring USD's former head football coach and development member who spent over 34 years with the Toreros. Fogarty will be in attendance and be a part of the pregame coin toss.

• Fogarty became USD's ninth head coach in 1983 and stayed in that role for 13 seasons. Following the 1995 season he stepped away as the program's all-time winningest coach with 71 career victories before moving into athletics development.

• Fogarty strung together eight straight winning seasons between 1986 and 1994, and during a four-year run beginning in 1989 compiled a 28-9 record. In 1993 he guided the Toreros into the Pioneer Football League – the nation's only non-scholarship, football-only NCAA Football Championship Subdivision conference.

• Along with over 21 years of service in athletics development, Fogarty served the university and athletic department with distinction. He made a positive impact on thousands of USD student-athletes, staff members, alumni and friends.

Michael Bandy made a career-high 12 catches for a career-best 202 yards but it was not enough as USD fell at Harvard, 36-14.

• Bandy's 12 receptions are the second-most by a Torero in a single game and his 202 receiving yards are the eighth most by a USD receiver in a game.

• The Toreros offense had trouble getting going against the Crimson.
Anthony Lawrence was 23-of-46 for 298 yards and one interception.
Terrence Smith led all rushers with 13 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Kim Mahoney led the Toreros defense with 10 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
Daniel Tolbert and
Marcus Vaivao both recorded eight tackles, while three of
Connor Spencer's 5.0 tackles were for a loss.

• USD is 5-0 all-time against the Hatters and won last year's meeting in Deland, Florida, 48-7.

Anthony Lawrence was named a William V. Campbell Trophy Semifinalist as announced by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. The award recognizes an individual as the absolute best football scholar-athlete in the nation.

Anthony Lawrence has continued his consistent play at quarterback this season. The four-year starter is 68-of120 for 826 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions on the season. He as an efficiency rating of 118.8.

• USD is in its 56th season of play, and 26th season as a member of the Pioneer Football League in 2018. The Toreros own the second-most PFL titles with nine (Dayton leads with 12) and have won six of the past seven PFL championships (2017, 2016, 2015c, 2014, 2012c, 2011c) and nine overall when adding in titles from 2007c, 2006, 2005.

• The Toreros had a stellar 2017 season that included the team's sixth Pioneer Football League title in the past seventh year and a trip to the FCS Playoff second round for the second consecutive season.

Dale Lindsey, the Toreros are 28-2 overall in home games at Torero Stadium, including a perfect 5-0 mark in 2017. Lindsey has yet to drop a home PFL contest in the past four seasons (20-0 record).
