Sept. 5, 2018

SAN DIEGO – San Diego plays host to cross-town rival San Diego State before traveling to No. 4 USC this weekend.

The Toreros (2-2-1) open the weekend at home against the Aztecs (2-3) on Friday at 7 p.m. (PT). USD faces the Trojans (4-0-1) at 1 p.m. on Sunday at McAlister Field.

Live statistics will be available for both matches and a live video stream from TheW.tv will be available for the SDSU match via USDToreros.com. The Pac 12 Network will have a live stream of the USC match.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros offense came to life on Friday and scored a season-high four goals to secure a 4-1 win against Utah Valley at Torero Stadium.
  • After a slow start, the offense clicked in the second half for USD to finish the match with a season-high 18 shots and 11 shots on goal.
  • Summer Mason, Madison Louderback, and Michaela Foster all scored their first goals of the season. Milan Moses scored her second goal of the season with an assist from Mason.

SAN DIEGO STATE ALL-TIME RECORD
  • USD has an all-time record of 6-10-1, against SDSU. In their last meeting, the Toreros dropped a 3-1 decision at San Diego State.
  • USD has a winning record at home against the Aztecs, 5-3-0, winning the last two games played in Torero Stadium in 2014 and 2016.
USC ALL-TIME RECORD
  • The Toreros have an all time record of 6-11-2 against the Trojans. The last time out, Summer Mason scored a goal 18 seconds into the game, but USD ended up falling 3-1 to USC at Torero Stadium.
  • USD secured a 2-1 win against the Trojans in 2012. The last time the Toreros beat a Top-10 team was against No. 7 Pepperdine in 2014.
QUALITY DEFENDING
  • Amber Michel has registered four or more saves in four-of-five matches this year, including a career-best 13 stops against Georgia (Aug. 19). Michel leads the WCC in saves per game (5.8) and save percentage (.853). She has helped the team record two shutouts this season.
  • The Toreros backline – consisting primarily of Emma Barrow, Kelley Carusa, and Julianne De Armas- has played well to limit the opposition's attack and keep the Toreros within striking distance in each game.
OFFENSE IGNITES
  • Mason and Moses have been the most dangerous up top. Moses leads the team with two goals and five points. Mason is ranked first in the WCC in shots and shots per a game.
  • USD leads the WCC in corner kicks, recording 34 so far this season.
FRESH LEGS
  • Moses, the sophomore transfer from SDSU, has made an immediate impact to offense. She leads the team in goals and shots on goal.
  • Michaela Foster looks to contribute more to the back line. She recently returned from her commitment to New Zealand's U20 national team that competed in the FIFA Women's U20 World Cup in France. In her second match as a Torero, she scored a goal off a corner kick against Utah Valley (Aug. 31).
  • Freshman Madison Louderback has started in four of the five matches for the Toreros. She scored the first goal for the Toreros over the weekend to secure a 4-1 victory against Utah Valley (Aug. 31).
