MORAGA, Calif.— Patricia Brossmann scored a career-high 22 points and recorded her sixth double-double of the season but it wasn't enough as San Diego fell to Saint Mary's 74-60 on Thursday night.

The Toreros (8-8, 1-4 WCC) shot 39 percent from the field but could not overcome a strong third quarter from the Gaels (9-6, 2-2 WCC) who outscored USDÂ 49-35 in the second half to secure the victory.
Brossmann finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 8-for-17 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Madison Pollock contributed 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists while
Leticia Soares chipped in eight points and
Sydney Shepard added a team-high five assists.
It was a tale of two halves, with a back-and-forth battle in the first half that saw nine ties and five lead changes, with neither team leading by more than five points. The teams were knotted 15-15 at the end of the first quarter and 25-25 at halftime.

San Diego shot 33 percent on 12-of-36 from the field in the first half and 1-of-1 from the free-throw line. Similarly, the Gaels also shot 33 percent (9-of-27) from the field and went 7-of-8 from the line. Neither team was able to knock down a shot from behind the arc, collectively going 0-for-11 from 3-point range.
The Toreros saw their biggest lead with 0:58 remaining in the half after Pollock knocked down a jumper to put USD up 25-21. The Gaels then put up two quick shots to pull even at 25-25 at the buzzer. Brossmann topped San Diego at the half with nine points and eight rebounds.

Saint Mary's came out aggressive to start the second half, knocking down back-to-back 3-point shots to spark a 10-2 run and never relinquished the lead again. The Gaels outscored the Toreros 31-16 in the third quarter, including four 3-pointers, and led by as many as 22 points in the second half.

Saint Mary's held advantages in points in the paint (44-32), second chance points (15-9) and saw significant production from their bench with 18 points, while USD collected 17 points off of turnovers compared to SMC's 13.

The Gaels won the rebound battle 40-38, while the Toreros held the slight advantage in offensive boards 15-13. San Diego knocked down several long-range jumpers but ultimately struggled from 3-point range, finishing just 1-of-11.
