SAN DIEGO— Leticia Soares recorded her first double-double of the season but San Diego could not slow the high-powered Pacific offense in a 79-47 loss, Saturday afternoon.

The Toreros (8-9, 1-5 WCC) struggled offensively, shooting 33 percent on 21-of-64 from the field and committing 20 turnovers. The Tigers (10-5, 3-2 WCC) led from start to finish, shooting 49 percent on the day (30-of-61) and 9-of-20 from three-point range.
Soares paced the Toreros with 19 points, hitting 9-of-13 from the field and led the team with 10 rebounds, including five offensive boards.
Sydney Hunter finished the day with eight points, while
Kiera Oakry added six.
Madison Pollock and
Sydney Shepard led USD with three assists each and Pollock chipped in eight rebounds.

The Tigers set the tone early, hitting five of their first six attempts, jumping out to an 11-1 lead to start the contest. Pacific outscored the Toreros 28-11 in the first quarter, including 11 points off of turnovers.Â

San Diego trailed 26-50 at halftime after the Tigers knocked down five threes and shot 54 percent from the field. Soares led the Toreros with 13 points and five rebounds.

The Toreros minimized turnovers in the second half and outrebounded Pacific 22-21 including a 7-4 advantage in offensive boards but USD was still unable to capitalize on offensive opportunities. The Tigers outscored the Toreros 17-9 in the third quarter to effectively seal the victory.

The Tigers did a good job of containing San Diego's leading scorer
Patricia Brossmann who averages 12.8 points per game. Brossmann finished the day with just two points on 1-of-7 shooting.Â

USD held the advantage in rebounds 45-39 and outscored the Tigers in the paint, 34-32 and on second-chance points, 18-12. However, Pacific dominated in points off of turnovers, 27-7 and were solid from beyond the arc, outscoring USD 27-3.

San Diego returns home next week for a noon tipoff against Portland on Thursday before taking on No. 14 Gonzaga on Saturday at 2 p.m. PT.
