Toreros Host Lions in WCC Home Opener

SAN DIEGO— San Diego will look to improve its 6-1 home record when it plays host to Loyola Marymount on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT.
 
The Toreros (8-5) return to the Jenny Craig Pavilion to face the Lions (8-6) after starting conference play 1-1 on the road to close out 2018. USD fell to San Francisco, 68-57, before securing an exciting comeback victory over Santa Clara, 57-49.

LAST TIME OUT
•San Diego closed out 2018 in exciting fashion, with a 57-49 comeback win over Santa Clara to improve to 1-1 in the WCC.
 
•After falling behind 37-21 at halftime, the Toreros (8-5, 1-1 WCC) outscored the Broncos (7-6, 0-2 WCC) 36-12 in the second half to secure their first conference win of the season.
 
•Sydney Shepard was key to the Toreros' offensive surge in the second half, finishing with a team-high 15 points, 12 of those coming in the second half. Shepard knocked down 4-of-9 from three-point range and led the Toreros with six assists.
 
•Patricia Brossmann recorded her fourth double-double of the year, finishing with 14 points and 12 rebounds, including eight offensive boards.
 
•Sydney Hunter chipped in 11 points and two steals for San Diego, while Myah Pace and Madison Pollock made key plays for the Toreros defensively. Pace collected a team-high three steals and five rebounds, while Pollock finished with one block, two steals and seven rebounds (5 ORB).
 
•San Diego held Santa Clara to 23.8 percent from the field in the second half and just eight points in the fourth quarter. The Toreros collected 23 points off of turnovers and outrebounded the Broncos 33-27, including 16 offensive boards.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST LMU
• The Toreros lead the all-time series with the Lions, 46-29. San Diego split the series last year with the Lions, taking the first matchup 60-54. Myah Pace finished the game with a team-high five assists and chipped in nine points and 11 rebounds. 
 
• The Lions were victorious in the second meeting, 67-53, behind a strong showing from three-point range. LMU went 6-of-12 behind the arc and hit 15 of its 16 free throws.
 
LEADING THE WAY
• Patricia Brossmann has established herself as a top performer for the Toreros this season. She leads the team in points (12.5 avg), rebounds (7.8 avg) and has a team-high four double-doubles this season.
 
• Brossmann is currently averaging 12.5 points per game with a 53.4 field-goal percentage which ranks second in the WCC. She also ranks top-10 in the conference for rebounding (5th) and steals (10th) with 23 steals (1.8 avg).
 
• Myah Pace leads the team in assists, averaging 4.8per game which ranks first in the conference. Pace is second on the team in rebounds (5.8 avg) and first in steals (24 total, 1.8 avg) which ranks ninth in the conference. She also ranks top-10 in the conference with a 75.5 free-throw percentage, hitting 37-of-49 to rank ninth.
 
• Sydney Shepard leads the Toreros from beyond the arc with a 36.6 three-point field-goal percentage, hitting 26-of-71. Shepard is second on the team with 50 assists this season, averaging 3.8 per game to rank 10th in the conference.
