Toreros Finished T-4th at Watney Invitational

Highest regular season finish since 2015

FRESNO, Calif. – Shooting a 19-under and being led by Harrison Kingsley's tied for fifth finish as an individual, the San Diego golf team finished tied for 4th out of 15 teams at the Nick Watney Invitational on Tuesday at the Fort Washington Golf Club.

The finish was the highest for USD in a tournament since finishing fourth at the WCC Championships in 2016 and highest finish in a regular season tournament since its fourth-place finish at the 2015 ASU Thunderbird Invitational.

"Really proud of the guys," said USD head coach Chris Riley. "Harrison and Alrik (Pan) led the way and played very solid all three rounds. Evan (Kawai) came up big for us as the 4 man, especially the last day with a 1-under 70, and our freshman Josh Hu got valuable playing time. We're looking to build on this finish with Cal up next."

Three Toreros finished in the top-20, including Kingsley and his nine-under 204 (69-68-67) score that was tied for fifth best. The 67 by Kingsley, a sophomore transfer from Cal Baptist, in the final round was his lowest score at the collegiate level.

Freshman Pan jumped two spots from day one to finish tied for 11th with a seven-under 206 (72-67-67). Donald Kay shot below par in the first and third rounds to finish four-under and tied for 19th.

Sophomore Evan Kawai rebounded on the final day by shooting a one-under 70 in the third round, one-over 214 (71-73-70) for the tournament, and tied for 30th overall. Hu shot an 11-over 225 (73-77-75) to round out the Toreros' effort.

USD quickly backs into action with the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. October 7-8.
