SAN DIEGO - The Toreros (6-6-1, 2-2 WCC) will face their toughest WCC travel week facing San Francisco (9-4-2, 2-1-1 WCC) on Wednesday, before traveling to Provo for a matchup against No. 4 BYU (13-0-1, 3-0-1 WCC).
CLIMBING THE RECORD BOOKS
Last time out, San Diego beat LMU 3-2 behind the leadership of
Milan Moses and
Amber Michel.
Moses scored all three goals in the contest to secure the second hat trick of her USD career. The San Leandro, Calif. native earned WCC Player of the Week honors for her performance, after shooting .571 on goal with four of seven shots registering on target. The redshirt senior climbed San Diego's record books after her six-point performance, and now sits at sixth all-time in career goals (20).
Amber Michel was a force in net for the Toreros registering five saves in the contest. In the 58th minute, her third save solidified her place as San Diego's all-team leader in saves. Michel has recorded 55 saves on the year and leads the WCC in saves per game.
The San Diego native has registered over five thousand minutes of action in her four-year career.
ROAD RECORD
San Diego is still looking to breakthrough on the road, after suffering losses to then No. 24 Santa Clara and Gonzaga earlier this month. The Toreros sole road win dates back to Sept. 13 in a 1-0 victory over cross-town rival San Diego State.
USD is currently tied for sixth in the conference as San Francisco and Gonzaga sit at 2-1-1 in the WCC.
SCOUTING THE DONS
San Francisco is coming off of a 3-2 overtime win on the road against Pacific. With under 15 seconds to play in the first overtime period, Miciah Madison scored the golden goal for the win. The match marks the Don's first win when an opponent scores first.
The Toreros will look to shutdown Madison and redshirt senior Samantha Jehnings, who lead the Don's with eight goals apiece in 2019. Senior Olivia Camera has registered 62 saves on the year, earning 15 starts in net.
San Diego owns the all-time record against the Dons at 21-6. The Toreros have been successful both at home and on the road with only four losses coming at Negoesco Stadium.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
BYU sits atop the WCC with a 3-0-1 record. Santa Clara is the only conference team to score more than one goal against the Cougars, leading to a 2-2 draw at Stevens Stadium. The Cougars are now ranked No. 4 in the country, climbing one spot from the previous week.
Last time out, BYU dominated St. Mary's winning 8-0. After the first 45 minutes, the Cougars had outshot the Gaels 15 to two to create a 4-0 advantage. Elise Flake and Mikayla Colohan scored twice in the contest.
Senior Sabrina Macias Davis has seen the most action in net, earning 13 starts on the season. The Littleton, Colo. native has recorded 25 saves and six shutouts in 2019.
The Cougars hold advantage in the all-time series record at 3-8-0. San Diego held their own against BYU taking them to overtime in 2018 before losing 2-1 at home. Michel recorded nine saves in the contest, and
Summer Mason scored the lone goal for USD in the 30th minute.
