SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga's offense proved to be too much, as San Diego (4-5-1) fell 6-0 on Saturday night. The Zags (8-3-0) collected 23 shots on the night, with over half on target.
The first half started strong for San Diego as
Milan Moses looked to connect from the center of the box off a beautiful turn from the right side. Gonzaga's Isabel Jones was there to make the save.
Madison Louderback and
Bekah Valdez also got going early with shots in the 35th and 38th minute.
Amber Michel made three key saves early in the first, but Samantha Heilman found the back of the net off a rebound from Michel to give the Zags a 1-0 advantage. Michel was solid in net for the remainder of the first, collecting seven saves off 12 shots faced.
Gonzaga's offense took off in the second 45 with five goals from four different players. Heilman secured a hat trick in the 67th minute after connecting with India Jencks. In the 87th, Darcy Woodward found the back of the net off a driving attack for the final goal of the night.
Eden Quiroz looked to break through for San Diego in the 90th minute, missing just high from the top of the box. The Toreros shot 50 percent from the field on the night with half being on target.
USD will host the WCC home opener against St. Mary's on Wednesday for their annual Pink Game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (PT).
