BOULDER, Colo. – Capping a week of three games in five days, San Diego will face off against #25 Colorado in Boulder on Saturday in one of USD's two matchups against Pac-12 teams this season.
The Toreros have bounced back from their 0-2 start to the year by winning two in a row coming into Saturday. The USD victories were against Fresno State - a 23-win team a year ago - and on the road at Weber State.
Saturday's game marks the third time in as many years the Toreros and Buffs square off.
LAST TIME OUT: CALCATERRA SCORES 21 AGAIN, TOREROS WIN AGAIN

Joey Calcaterra matched his career-high in points by scoring 21 for the second game in a row and led the Toreros to their second victory in three days by winning at Weber State, 71-56, on Thursday. A redshirt sophomore, Calcaterra scored 14 of his 21 points in the second and shot 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-6 from three-point range. He was one of three Toreros who reached double figures in points, a group that included
Braun Hartfield (10 points, 6 rebounds) and
James Jean-Marie (10 points, 9 rebounds). The Toreros overcame what was a five-point at one point in the first half and never trailed after
Alex Floresca hit a jump shot in the paint to make it 25-23 with 32 seconds remaining in the opening period. The Torero defense forced 14 turnovers, 10 of which were on steals.
Marion Humphrey had a career-high four steals to led USD while seven of the eight Toreros who logged minutes had at least one. As a team, the Toreros out-shot the Wildcats, 50% to 38.7%.
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST COLORADO
- Saturday will be the seventh all-time matchup between San Diego and Colorado as the series stands at 3-3.
- Last season, USD took down Colorado at home, 70-64. It was its second straight win over the Buffaloes in as many seasons. The Toreros won in Boulder, 69-59, in 2017-18.

Joey Calcaterra has been the offensive standout for the Toreros in the early part of the season as he has scored 20 points in three straight games.
- Calcaterra is the first Torero to score 20+ points in three straight games since
Isaiah Pineiro did so in February 2019.
- Calcaterra has reached double-digits in points in all four games this year. Prior to this season, Calcaterra had 10+ points only twice in his career.
- A native of Novato, California, Calcaterra is averaging a team-best 18.5 points this season in 36.3 minutes. Last year, he averaged 2.8 points in 12.4 minutes.
- Entering the weekend, Calcaterra is 14th in the country and first among WCC players with 74 total points. His average of 18.5, meanwhile, is sixth-best in the WCC.
SHOOTING PERFORMANCE
- After shooting below 40% in the first three games of the season, the Toreros found their stroke at Weber State. They shot a season-best 50% (28-of-56) and 40% from three-point range (8-of-20).
- Prior to Thursday, USD's best shooting night was the season opener against UC Irvine (39%; 23-of-59 and 34.8% from three; 8-of-23).
- The 50% from the field at Weber State was the first time USD shot 50% or better since February 28, 2019 at San Francisco (51.6%; 32-of-62). It ws the first time in a game that did not go into overtime since December 22, 2018 vs. Washington State (50.8%; 30-of-59).
DOUBLE DOUBLE
- After grabbing two rebounds in Division I debut against UC Irvine,
James Jean-Marie has led the team in boards in the last three games. Over the stretch, he is averaging 10.7 rebounds per game.
- He is also averaging a double-double over the last three games as he has 10.0 points to go with the 10.7 rebounds.
- Jean-Marie is averaging 8.5 rebounds per game for the season, the second-best mark in the WCC.
FLIPPING THE TURNOVERS
- Following 29 turnovers at Long Beach State on November 9, the Toreros have drastically cut down their turnovers in the last two games - both of which are wins. In the last two games, USD has combined for only 24 turnovers, including a season-low 10 at Weber State.
- In the first two games, USD averaged 21 turnovers a game. In the last two, it has 12 per game.

- In addition to running the point on offense, redshirt freshman
Marion Humphrey has demonstrated his ability to generate turnovers as he has a team-best 2.3 steals per game.
- The native of Hoover, Ala. has seven steals combined in the last two games, including a career-high four at Weber State.
- Humphrey enters the weekend first in the WCC and 25th in the country in total steals with nine. His 2.3 steals per game are fifth-best among conference players.
AT THE LINE
- The Toreros have demonstrated an ability to get to the free throw line and get to it often. They rank 20th in the country in free throws made and 36th in free throws attempted.
- Their free throw percentage of 76% is fourth in the WCC (66th in the nation).

Joey Calcaterra is the leading Torero to get to the line as his 22 free throws made and 26 attempts are sixth- and 11th-best, respectively, in the country. He has a team-best 84.6% success rate at the charity stripe.
STORY FOR THE ROAD
- USD is looking to capture back-to-back road wins for the first time since the 2017-18 season. That year, USD won three road games in a row: Dec. 6, 2017 at New Mexico State; Dec. 12, 2017 at Colorado; January 4, 2018 at Portland.
AGAINST THE PAC-12
- USD has faced a Pac-12 opponent six times in the last two seasons, going 3-3 in the stretch.
- USD went 2-2 in 2018-19 and 1-1 in 2017-18. In 2016-17, the Toreros were 0-2 against the conference.
- Of the three wins against Pac-12 schools, two were against Colorado.
