Toreros Secure Top 25 Finishes at NCAA Regionals

Both the men's and women's teams finished strong in Colfax

COLFAX, Wash. - San Diego men's and women's cross country secured two top 25 team finishes on Friday morning at the NCAA West Regional in Colfax, Wash.

"The entire team came out here and ran as a unit," said head coach Will Guarino. "I've never seen us run that collectively and it was exciting to see."

The women finished 19th overall in the team standings, beating out Cal Poly and WCC opponents St. Mary's, Santa Clara and LMU.

Junior Hannah Rasmussen paced for the women finishing strong to place 40th overall. This marks Rasmussen's best finish at NCAA Regionals to date, as she finished 52nd overall in 2018.

Rasmussen earned a new personal best in the 6K with a time of 20:54.3.

Cammy Manes also ran well to pace as San Diego's second runner. Manes finished in the top 100 with a new personal record of 21:36.1.

Molly Klein and Madison Lambros ran as a unit to finish only one spot behind one another as the Toreros' third and fourth runners. Ally Roessling, Maggie Scholle, and Gianna Sbabaro rounded out the pack for USD.

The men's side ran well to finish 22nd overall in the team standings. The Toreros beat out two WCC opponents in LMU and St. Mary's.

Ian Converse once again emerged as San Diego's number one runner finishing with a time of 31:45.3. Joshua Thompson and Patrick Bruce rounded out the top three for USD finishing with times of 32:09.3 and 32:14.4 respectively.

Bruce provided valuable leadership in the three spot to elevate the Toreros to the top 25.

"We would not have been able to get it done without the senior leadership of Patrick," said Guarino. "He showed tremendous fight and served as a captain for us today. It was exciting to see the men emerge together on the regional stage."

Ethan Steiner and Jackson Pierce finished four and five for USD securing spots in the top 150 overall.

"This is a good stepping stone for the program for next year," said Guarino. "I'm very proud of our entire team this season and am excited for the future."
