SAN DIEGO -- The Toreros (3-0) once again had four players in double figures on the way to an 81-28 win over Biola (2-3) at home on Tuesday night.
Patricia Brossmann led the way with her first double-double of the season recording 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Ana Ramos added 12 points and four assists off the bench, and sophomore
Aminata Dosso and freshman
Ayanna Khalfani chipped in 10 points off the bench as well.
"Both of our freshman Amanda and Ayanna are just going to be great players for us," said head coach
Cindy Fisher. "Ayanna is playing with a lot of confidence, and she's playing like she's been on the floor a lot."
San Diego pulled down 48 rebounds in the contest compared to Biola's 26, led by Brossmann's 10 boards. The Toreros also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 20 rebounds into 16 second chance points.
San Diego's defense held Biola to only 22.2% shooting from the field, including 22.2% from beyond the arc. The Toreros defense pulled down 28 defensive rebounds to help hold off second chance opportunities, allowing only three points off three offensive rebounds for the Eagles.
The Torero's put together a 10-6 lead heading into the second with the bench accounting for six of its total 10 points. San Diego increased its lead to enter halftime with a 25-15 edge.
San Diego then went on a 17-0 run, punctuated by a basket from
Leticia Soares, to expand its lead further to 47-24 with one minute to go in the third. Nine Biola turnovers allowed the Toreros to score six additional points off of takeaways.
"I really proud of them in the second half, they just fought," said Fisher. "I'm very proud of our bench. They came out and did some amazing things for us."
Freshman
Amanda Olinger made her collegiate debut in the second half, recording four points on the night and shooting .500 from the field.
USD coasted to the win the rest of the way, increasing their margin of victory by outscoring the Eagles 32-2 in the fourth quarter.
The Toreros are back in action on Saturday, when they'll take on San Jose State on the road at 2 p.m. (PT).
