Toreros Conclude Regular Season

No. 20 San Diego will host LMU with a chance to claim WCC title outright

 SAN DIEGO—No. 20 San Diego will play host to Loyola Marymount in a rare Tuesday night matchup to conclude the regular season.
 
The Toreros (22-5, 16-1 WCC) take on the Lions (15-14, 9-8 WCC) with a chance to claim the WCC title outright—their first since 2013. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
 
The match will be streamed via the WCC Network and live statistics will be available on USDToreros.com.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Toreros went 2-0 last week with sweeps over both Gonzaga (25-16, 25-17, 25-10) and Portland (25-11, 25-18, 25-11) to claim a share of the 2019 West Coast Conference title.
 
• Katie Lukes and Megan Jacobsen led the attack for the Toreros. Lukes averaged 4.20 kills per set (21 total), hitting .459, while Jacobsen hit a blazing .613 with 20 kills and one error in 31 attempts (3.33 k/s).
 
• Anna Newsome directed the offense to a .424 team hitting percentage, collecting 56 assists (9.33 a/s). Newsome also collected two aces to lead USD against the Pilots. Roxie Wiblin collected three aces in Thursday's win over the Bulldogs.
 
• Annie Benbow turned in two strong performances for USD in the back court, collecting 26 digs (4.33 d/s). USD had eight Toreros register at least one block and limited its opponents to a .079 hitting percentage.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST LOYOLA MARYMOUNT
• San Diego leads the all-time series with the Lions, 43-40. The Toreros took the first meeting this season, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-15.
 
• Frohling led USD with 12 kills while Fayad and Jacobsen added 11 kills each. Newsome collected 42 assists for the Toreros and added six kills of her own.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
• San Diego remains at No. 20 in the AVCA Division I Coaches Poll this week. It is San Diego's highest-ranking this season and the third consecutive week the Toreros have appeared in the top-25.
 
• The Toreros sit at No. 26 in the NCAA Division I RPI rankings, having faced two opponents in the top-10 and five opponents in the top-30 (6-Nebraska, 8-Washington, 11-Hawaii, 20-BYU, 27-Southern California).
 
OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY
• The Toreros are currently hitting .286 as a team on the season to rank 10th in the nation and first in the WCC. USD is collecting 14.04 kills per set to rank 21st nationally and first in the conference.
 
• USD also ranks first in the WCC for assists per set (13.00) and 23rd nationally.
 
• Megan Jacobsen ranks first in the WCC and 7th nationally with a .416 hitting percentage.
 
BALANCED ATTACK
• When it comes to offense, San Diego likes to spread the ball around. Five different Toreros have led a match in kills this season for USD. Fayad leads the group with 12 matches and Jacobsen is right behind her with 10.
 
TOREROS EARN 11TH TITLE IN PROGRAM HISTORY
• With Saturday's sweep of Portland, the Toreros clinched a share of the WCC Championship, their 11th in program history and fifth this decade. USD now ties Pepperdine for most conference titles in the WCC.
 
READY TO DANCE
• With a share of the conference title locked up, the Toreros own the tiebreaker over second-place BYU, and secured the WCC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It marks the 10th-straight trip to the post-season for USD and the 22nd trip in the past 24 seasons.

• The Toreros will find out their post-season path on Sunday, Dec. 1 during the NCAA DI women's volleyball selection show. The 2019 bracket will be announced at 5:30 p.m. PT on ESPNU.
