HARTFIELD'S BIG GAME
- Redshirt junior Braun Hartfield's season-high 25 points against Hofstra on Wednesday were the most points scored by a Torero since Isaiah Pineiro had 27 against BYU in the WCC Tournament on March 9, 2019. It was the 40th time in the last 10 years a Torero had 25+ points.
- It was Hartfield's most points in a game since he had 25 against UIC on January 18, 2018 when he was with Youngstown State. That season, the Cleveland, Ohio native had eight games of 20 or more points (career-high: 33 vs. Canisius, 11/18/17).
- Hartfield now has three double-digit scoring games this season while Wednesday's effort was his first since he had 10 at Weber State on Nov. 14.
- Hartfield also had 12 rebounds to go with his 25 points, giving him his first double-double since the 2018 matchup against UIC while with the Penguins. In that game, he had 25 points and 11 rebounds.
- Hartfield's 12 boards were his most in a game in his collegiate career.
- Hartifield is the first Torero to have a double-double and multiple blocks and steals since Thomas Jacobs did it in November 2013 (14 pts, 13 reb, 2 blk, 2 stl). He is the only Torero to do it while also having multiple assists in the last decade.
- Hartfield became the first Torero since Isaiah Pineiro in November 2018 vs. San Diego Christian to have 10+ points, 8+ rebounds and multiple blocks, steals and assists in a game.
21 AND COUNTING
- Redshirt sophomore Joey Calcaterra scored 21 points against Hofstra, his third time this season he has reached his career-high.
- Calcaterra has four 20-point games already this year, which makes it the 16th time a Torero has at least four such games in a single-season since 2011-12. He is the seventh different Torero in the last 10 years to have 4+ 20-point games in a single season.
- Calcaterra is the team's leading scorer with 14.9 points per game this year.
PAIR OF 20s
- In the game against Hofstra, Braun Hartfield and Joey Calcaterra became the first pair of Torero teammates to have 20-point efforts in the same game since December 2018.
SEASON-LOW TURNOVERS
- A key part of USD's win against Hofstra was its ability to limit turnovers as it had a season-low seven. It was its fewest in a game since February 28, 2019 at San Francisco (7).
- Entering the game against Hofstra, the Toreros were averaging 16.7 turnovers per game (currently: 15.5).
HEATING UP
- In the last two games, the Toreros are shooting 46.4% from the field (58-of-125). They are coming off the Hofstra game in which they had a season-high 32 field goals and turned in their second-best shooting night of the season (47.8%).
- The 32 field goals were the most for the Toreros in a regulation game since December 15, 2018 vs. Northern Colorado (33, 56.9% FG).
- USD had 32 field goals at San Francisco on February 28, 2019, but the game went into overtime. It had 30 shots made in regulation against the Dons.
- The Toreros are averaging 74 points per game and 29 field goals in the last two, which comes off their season-low performance of 49 points and 17 shots made at #25 Washington.
ON THE BOARDS
- James Jean-Marie continues to be a force on the boards in his first season in a USD uniform. He currently leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game and 64 total.
- The Navarro College (TX) transfer is second in the WCC in rebounds per game and first in total rebounds (44th in the country).
- Jean-Marie is his most effective on the defensive end, hauling in 6.25 rebounds per game, which is best in the WCC (87th in the nation).
- Last year at Navarro, Jean-Marie averaged 12.7 points and 7.3 rebounds.
MARION'S WAY
- Marion Humphrey comes into the Boca Raton Beach Classic with double-digit scoring games in the last two: 13 at #25 Washington on Nov. 24 and 11 vs. Hofstra on Nov. 27.
- Humphrey, a redshirt freshman, is tied for second on the team with four double-digit scoring contests this year.
- In the last two games, Humphrey is averaging 12.0 points per game on 64% shooting (9-of-14).
AGGRESSIVE DEFENSE
- USD continues to be aggressive on defense as it has 52 steals in its first eight games of the season. It took USD until its 10th game last year to total 52 steals.
- The Toreros have eight or more steals in half of their eight games. They had a season-high 10 at Weber State followed by nine at #25 Colorado.
