Osorio Defeated in Round of 32

Senior loses in three sets to No. 35 Rodrigues

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – After taking the first set in a tiebreaker and battling in the third, No. 32 Gui Osorio lost to No. 35 Daniel Rodrigues 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday in the Round of 32 of the 2019 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships.

Osorio held off the No. 10 seed Rodrigues in the first set and quickly saw the second go the other way to bring the match to one set apiece. In the third, Osorio trailed as much as 4-1, but he closed it to 4-3 and then 5-4 before losing.

"Tough match for Gui today, but once again very proud of how he competed and his fight to the very last point," said USD assistant coach Sebastian Rey. "Gui has made some big strides this semester and his results have shown his hard work. He knows he can compete at the highest level, which is very encouraging ahead of our strong spring schedule. Unfortunately today, Gui didn't win the big points. (Rodrigues) stepped up and played more aggressively to make the difference."

The match was Osorio's eighth against a ranked opponent this fall, finishing with a 5-3 record and victories against opponents ranked No. 2 and 23.
