Pace and Hunter Potent in Win Over LMU

A new career-high and double-double pace San Diego

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - San Diego (7-6, 1-1 WCC) jumped out to a 19-9 first quarter lead and never trailed on the way to a 67-59 victory against LMU (4-11, 0-2 WCC) on the road on Monday afternoon.
 
The Toreros had four players score in double figures, led by junior guard Myah Pace, who had 20 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two blocks in the contest. Pace's offensive effort marks a new career-high in points.
 
Sydney Hunter was also potent on the offensive end of the floor recording 11 points and 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Senior Madison Pollock tacked on 13 points and six rebounds, while Jordyn Edwards added 10 points on the afternoon.
 
San Diego was efficient off the glass, led by Hunter's 12 boards. Patricia Brossmann and Pace each pulled down three offensive rebounds to help rack up second chance opportunities, as the Toreros grabbed 14 offensive boards to create 18 second chance points.
 
San Diego's defense was efficient in the contest holding LMU to 17.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc and 35.1 percent from the field.
 
After jumping out to an early advantage, the Toreros went on an 11-0 run with six minutes left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Pollock, to increase its lead to 17 to five. San Diego entered the second quarter with a 10-point advantage over the Lions, scoring 16 of its 19 points close to the basket.
 
The Toreros maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 33-29 edge. San Diego continued to dominate in the paint, scoring eight of its 14 points in the key.
 
After intermission, San Diego added to its advantage and owned a 41-36 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
 
San Diego continued to widen its lead and then went on an 8-0 run, as Pace hit two back-to-back threes to grow the lead to 53-39 with seven minutes remaining. Edwards secured her double-double effort with a layup off an assist from Edwards to widen the gap to 13. San Diego cruised the rest of the way to win 67-59.
 
The Toreros are back in action on Thursday evening, when they'll take on Portland in the Jenny Craig Pavilion for the WCC home opener at 6 p.m. (PT).
