SAN DIEGO The Toreros will start a two-game week against Big West opponents as they will travel to face Cal State Fullerton Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Titan Gym.

The Toreros are coming off a 17-point win against Holy, their second victory in the last four games. The true road game against the Titans will be their first since November 24 (at #25 Washington) and fourth of the season. Cal State Fullerton, meanwhile, will be playing its fourth home game. It is 1-2 so far at home this season.

Wednesday's game can be seen on BigWest.TV and heard on www.USDToreros.com, with the Voice of the Toreros Jack Cronin on the call.

LAST TIME OUT: BENCH BOLSTERS USD TO 68-51 WIN OVER HOLY CROSS
- Three Toreros scored in double figures, led by Yauhen Massalski's 12, and the defense surrendered its fewest points in nearly two years as San Diego took down Holy Cross 68-51 in the final game of the Boca Raton Beach Classic on Saturday at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The USD bench contributed 33 points in the 17-point win, including the dozen by Massalski and 11 from Braun Hartfield. Finn Sullivan, who started in place of Hartfield, had a season-high 10 points in 30 minutes, also a personal-best for the season. The Toreros had the game in control for much of the night as they led for nearly 33 minutes, shot over 54% from the field in the first half, and were up by double-digits for the final 12 minutes. The lead was as big as 19 points on three occasions.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST CAL STATE FULLERTON
- Wednesday will be the 22nd all-time meeting between San Diego and Cal State Fullerton. The Toreros trail in the series, 8-13, and have lost three of the last four meetings.

- The last time the two schools faced off was during the 2016-17 season when the Toreros took down the Titans in San Diego 82-75 on December 16, 2016.

- USD has not won at Fullerton since the 1999-2000 season. It is 0-2 in the last two meetings on the road.

- The first matchup between the two schools took place during the 1964-65 season, a game in which the Toreros won 78-54.

LOOKING AHEAD
- The Toreros return home for another game against a Big West opponent as the Toreros will host UC Daivs on Saturday at 7 p.m. inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion. It will be the fourth and final contest for USD against a Big West opponent this season (0-2 going into Cal State Fullerton).

RETURN OF YAU
- Junior Yauhen Massalski, after missing a month due to injury, returned to the court in the Holy Cross game, scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench. Massalski started the season opener against UC Irvine on November 5 and in 24 of his 33 games last year.

- The 12 points and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench was only the third time since 2010-11 that a Torero had turned in the feat (source: Sports Reference).

Toreros with 12+ points, 8+ rebounds in 22 minutes or less off the bench
USD history (since 2010-11)

  • Yauhen Massalski (12/7/19 vs. Holy Cross)
  • Jose Martinez (11/15/18 vs. San Diego Christian)
  • Thomas Jacobs (11/21/13 vs. San Diego Christian)

- Massalski tied Braun Hartfield for the team-lead in plus/minus against Holy Cross with a +20.

- The Belarus native helped the Toreros win the rebounding battle, 36-35, and battle in the paint, 36-30.

51 POINTS
- With the help of Massalski's return, USD held Holy Cross to 51 points on 37.9% shooting (22-of-58).

- The 51 points were the fewest allowed by the Toreros since December 21, 2017 vs. Life Christian (W, 94-51). It was the fewest points surrendered to a Division I opponent since December 9, 2017 vs. Northern Arizona (W, 79-51).

- Holy Cross's 37.9% shooting percentage was also the third-lowest against USD this season. The Toreros only allowed 22 made field goals, tied for the fewest this year (Last: 22 by Hofstra on Nov. 27).

- USD has held four opponents to below 40% shooting in a game and is, unsurprisingly, 4-0 in such contests.

OFF THE BENCH
- With the distribution of minutes, USD posted a season-high 33 points off the bench against Holy Cross. It nearly doubled its bench scoring average from the first 10 games (15.9 points).

- Prior to Holy Cross, USD had not scored 30 or more points off the bench in any game this year. The previous season-high was 29 at #25 Washington.

- Hartfield is also averaging 8.0 rebounds per game over the four-game stretch, the best mark on the team, in addition to 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals.

- In the first seven games, Hartfield averaged 9.4 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 37.3%.

- Hartfield has become the team's second-leading scorer and rebounder for the season, averaging 12 points and six rebounds.

- He has double-digit points in each of the four games and double-digit rebounding in two of the four.

FINN FILLING IN
- In his first start of the season, sophomore Finn Sullivan had a season-high 10 points in 30 minutes against Holy Cross. It was his first double-digit scoring effort since scoring 17 against BYU in the WCC Tournament in March 2019.

- The 10 points were more than he had in the three games combined prior to Holy Cross (six in 63 minutes).

HOME VS. ROAD
- In true road games this year, USD is scoring 63.8 points on 42.2% shooting and holds a 1-3 record. Defensively, the Toreros are surrendering 72.3 points on 45.6% shooting.

- In the last four games, USD has only turned the ball over more than 10 times in a game twice. The Toreros had double-digit turnovers in each of the first seven games of the season.

- San Diego is averaging 11.3 turnovers per game in the last four (record: 2-2). To start the season, it was averaging 16.7 (record: 2-5).

- USD is 2-1 this season when it has 10 or fewer turnovers.
