Toreros Set to Face Cross-Town Rival Aztecs

Wednesday's meeting marks the 38th contest between the two teams

SAN DIEGO - The Toreros are set to take on cross-town rival SDSU on the road at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. This will mark the 38th meeting between the two programs.
 
The Aztecs are coming off a loss on the road to San Jose State, after Taylor Kalmer and Sophia Ramos posted season-highs to lead SDSU in scoring.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Jordyn Edwards led San Diego on Saturday afternoon with 22 points as the Toreros fell to Cal State Fullerton, 72-67.
 
• Edwards' performance marked a new career high for the redshirt junior, who also recorded one block and one steal in the contest.
 
Myah Pace tacked on 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals. Senior Leticia Soares earned her sixth start of the season chipping in 12 points and two steals.
 
• San Diego utilized excellent ball movement, piling up 17 assists on 26 made field goals.
 
• The Toreros forced 21 Titan turnovers to convert the takeaways into 28 points on the offensive end of the floor. Pace led the way individually with four steals on the afternoon.
 
• USD started strong in the first to build a 20-15 advantage headed into the second. The Toreros widened the gap in the quarter to create a 35-28 edge to enter halftime. Edwards found her rhythm from beyond the arc hitting a three-pointer off an assist from Pace.
 
• The Titans rebounded in the third to build a five point advantage in the third. San Diego could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 72-67.
 
EDWARDS FINDS HER RHYTHM
• The redshirt junior's performance over the weekend marked a new career-high in points.
 
• Edwards' offensive production elevated her to third on the team in points per game averaging 10.3, right behind senior Madison Pollock who is averaging 10.4 per game.
 
• Edwards made impact from beyond the arc over the weekend, hitting five three-pointers in the contest, the most by a Torero so far this season. She ranks first on the team from three nailing 11 out of 30 attempts on the season.
 
• The guard has also been consistent from the free throw line for San Diego, missing her first opportunity of the season against Cal State Fullerton. She now has a .938 free throw percentage off 16 attempts.
 
• Edwards found more rhythm at the point guard position on Saturday recording four assists in the contest. She ranks second on teh team behind Myah Pace with 26 on the year.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SAN DIEGO STATE
• The Aztecs own the all-time series against the Toreros at 23-15. The past five seasons have given San Diego the City Championship with USD winning by one point last season.
 
CRASHING THE GLASS
• San Diego is currently outrebounding opponents 306-254 in the 2019-20 season.
 
Patricia Brossmann leads the way for the Toreros averaging 7.4 boards per game. Senior guard Pollock has also been potent crashing the glass averaging 6.4 per game.
 
• Brossmann ranks third in the West Coast Conference in offensive rebounds with 30 on the season. Her efforts have allowed San Diego to record almost 100 second chance points.
 
• The Toreros currently rank first in the WCC with a .757 defensive rebounding percentage. San Diego has recorded 187 defensive rebounds compared to only 60 offensive rebounds by their opponents.
 
CREATING OPPORTUNITIES
• Pace continues to lead the conference in steals with 29 on the year.
 
• Edwards has also contributed double-digit takeaways so far this season with 17 total.
 
• As a team, the Toreros are averaging 10.5 steals per game compared to their opponents' 7.9 per game. San Diego ranks second in the WCC for takeaways tied with Pacific and just behind Portland who is averaging 11 per game.
 
FROM THE BENCH
• San Diego will look to its bench to create more offensive production against the Aztecs.
 
• The Toreros have struggled as of late with the bench producing less than 10 points against Cal State Fullerton.
 
• Senior Ana Ramos has played a vital role in rotation for San Diego, averaging 4 points per game and recording a .875 free throw percentage on the year.
