SAN DIEGO—San Diego was undone by a late rally by Utah in a 6-5 loss on Sunday afternoon at Fowler Park to conclude the Tony Gwynn Legacy event.

The Toreros (5-3) held a 5-2 lead heading into the seventh, but an error and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for the Utes (2-4) in the top of the inning. Utah scored three runs in the seventh to tie the game 5-5.Â

The Utes scored again on a single up the middle in the eighth to take the 6-5 lead, their first of the contest. The Toreros threatened with base runners in the final three innings but were unable to convert, stranding six down the stretch.

Freshman
Jake Miller (1-0, 0.00 ERA) got the start on the mound for USD, his second of the season. The righthander went 4.0 innings, with no runs, no hits, five walks and six strikeouts.

Travis Kuhn (0-1, 3.86 ERA) was credited with the loss for USD, going 3.0 innings and giving up two runs on four hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

The Toreros scored two runs in the first, one in the second and two in the sixth.
Shane McGuire finished the day 2-for-3 including a double and two RBIs.
Adam Lopez also went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.Â

In total, USD had 13 hits, three errors and stranded 16 base runners in the contest. Utah finished with eight hits, one error and 12 runners left on base.

The Toreros will look to bounce back when they head across town to face city rival San Diego State on Tuesday at 6 p.m. PT.
