SAN DIEGO – San Diego dropped a pair of games on the second day of play at the USD Tournament, falling to Portland State and UC Riverside.

The Toreros (1-3) nearly earned their second consecutive comeback victory against Portland State (2-2), rallying for a pair of runs in the seventh but came up just short in a 3-2 defeat.

USD started hot against UC Riverside (3-1) with a pair of runs in the first inning, but that was all it would get in a 6-2 loss.

Taylor Spence led the Toreros offensively on the day, going 3-for-6 with two runs and a walk.
Sara Silveyra and Lindsay Clara both went 3-for-7 with an RBI. Two of Clare's hits were doubles and she leads the team with three on the season.

Madison Earnshaw got the start for the Toreros against Portland state and pitched well, permitting just two runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
Delaney Heller entered the game in relief and allowed one run in 1 2/3 innings on four hits and no walks.

Heller got the start against UC Riverside and went 1 2/3 innings before being relieved by
Halle Kyler.

Kyler held UC Riverside to two runs on three hits and one walk with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
Hannah Boos finished the game in the circle, allowing one run on three hits and no walks in 3.0 innings.

The Toreros will look to get back on track Sunday as they conclude play at the USD Tournament with games against Cal Poly and UC Riverside.
