SAN DIEGO—San Diego used a six-run sixth inning to complete the 9-6 comeback win over No. 21 TCU on Tuesday night at Fowler Park.
The Toreros (13-4) trailed 6-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth before USD broke through to score six runs and take the lead from the Horned Frogs (9-6). San Diego added runs in the seventh and eighth innings to ensure the victory.
San Diego collected 13 hits in the contest and five Toreros with multi-hit games.
Adam Kerner finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs while
Connor Doyle hit 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Jeff Houghtby hit his third double of the season, adding a run and finishing 2-for-5.
Cade Brown got the start for the Toreros, going 1.1 innings, giving up four runs on five hits with one walk and one strikeout. USD used seven out of the bullpen in relief of Brown, collectively giving up two runs on six hits with eight walks and five strikeouts.
Grady Miller (2-1, 9.22 ERA) was credited with the win and
Jack Dolak earned a save after retiring the Frogs in order in the ninth, including one strikeout.
TCU scored two runs in the first and second innings and added one run in the third and sixth. USD capitalized on four Horned Frog errors, including one in the pivotal sixth inning to score two runs and tie the game, 6-6.
Shane McGuire singled to center field with one out to score the go-ahead run and the Toreros never looked back, defeating their second ranked opponent of the season.
San Diego remains home to open up conference play against Pepperdine on Friday at 6 p.m.
