SAN DIEGO – San Diego will pursue its first WCC Tournament victory since the 2012-13 season when it begins postseason play against Portland on Thursday at 8 p.m. PT.

The Toreros (18-13, 7-9 WCC) split a pair of games last week, earning a dramatic 91-90 comeback overtime victory at San Francisco and dropping an 87-73 decision at BYU in the regular season finale.

The game will be broadcast on multiple channels (Spectrum SportsNet/BYUtv/TheW.tv) with Dave McCann (play-by-play), Barry Tompkins (play-by-play), Blaine Fowler (analyst), Dan Belluomini (analyst), and Sammy O'Brien (reporter) on the call. WCC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• USD is 5-10 in the WCC Tournament since the competition moved to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the 2008-09 season. The Toreros have lost their last six WCC Tournament games.

• The Toreros most recent victory in the WCC Tournament came on March 8, 2013, when they defeated BYU 72-69 in the quarterfinals. USD's all-time leading scorer, Johnny Dee, dropped 25 points in the win.

• USD beat Pepperdine, 62-59, the night before its win against BYU in its first game of the postseason. The Toreros gave Saint Mary's all it could handle in the semifinals but fell 69-66.

• The Toreros most recently won the WCC Tournament title during the 2007-08 season. It was the last year the tournament was hosted at a conference institution and USD won the tournament on its home floor in San Diego, defeating No. 20 Gonzaga, 69-62. USD received the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and beat Connecticut 70-69 on a buzzer beater in the first round in Tampa, Florida.

THE ROAD AHEAD
• USD's path to the WCC Tournament title would require five victories in six days. The Toreros path to the championship game begins with 10th-seeded Portland, followed by No. 6 Santa Clara, No. 3 BYU and No. 2 Saint Mary's.

• The Toreros are 2-0 against the Pilots but will be seeking revenge against the rest of the bracket, holding a combined 0-5 record against the rest of their side of the bracket.

Isaiah Wright scored 19 points and San Diego mounted a late run but could not complete the comeback, falling at BYU 87-73 this past Saturday night at the Marriott Center.

• The Toreros trailed by double-digits for a majority of the second half but rallied to make it a six-point game with 2:22 to play. That was as close as USD would get, as the Cougars hit eight consecutive free throws to end the game and seal the decision.

• Wright was excellent throughout the night and contributed seven rebounds and three assists to go along with his team-high 19 points.

Isaiah Pineiro scored a game-high 22 points to lead San Diego to a 63-52 victory in the teams' most recent meeting on Feb. 21. The Toreros closed the game on a 9-0 scoring run and permitted just one Portland field goal and six total points in the final 11:20 of the game.

Olin Carter III and
Isaiah Wright earned All-WCC honors. Pineiro was named to the first team for the second consecutive season, while Carter III was named to the second team and Wright claimed honorable mention recognition. It was also the second conference honors of Carter III and Wright's careers.

• Massalski missed three games (Dec. 1-9) after sustaining an ankle injury in the first three minutes at Ole Miss (Nov. 28). Wright missed four games (Dec. 29-Jan.5) after a wrist injury during a double-overtime game against Drake (Dec. 23). Carter III missed five games (Jan. 17-Feb. 2) due to an abdominal injury in the second half against Pepperdine (Jan. 12).

Isaiah Pineiro has led the Toreros in scoring in 17-of-31 games (55 percent) and
Olin Carter III has led USD in seven games. The duo tied for the most points against BYU (Feb. 14) with 20 apiece.

• Pineiro is averaging 19.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. He is also averaging 2.2 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Pineiro is shooting 49 percent from the field and 37 percent from 3-point range.

• Pineiro leads the Toreros with 15 double-doubles on the season and has registered double-doubles in nine of the past 10 games. He is averaging 18.9 points and 11.2 rebounds in the last nine games.

• Pineiro recorded four double-doubles during a five-game span (vs. Grand Canyon, at Santa Clara, vs. Pacific, at Portland) from Jan. 3-18. He averaged 17.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game during that stretch.

Isaiah Pineiro joined USD's 1,000 point club during the Toreros game at Loyola Marymount on Feb. 7. He has 1,128 points and is 20th all-time in career points in USD history.

WRIGHT LEADS THE OFFENSE

Isaiah Wright returned to the lineup against Portland (Jan. 17) after missing four games due to a wrist injury sustained during the Toreros game against Drake (Dec. 23). Wright was excellent in his return, recording 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists.

• Wright started the season well but began gaining steam right before his injury. During a nine-game stretch from Nov.24-Dec. 23, he was shooting 46 percent from the field, 35 percent from 3-point range, and averaging 15.4 points, 5.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 steals.

• Wright is contributing 13.2 points, 4.8 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game on the season.
