LAS VEGAS – San Diego will look to avenge a regular-season loss when it takes on Santa Clara in the second round of the WCC Tournament on Friday at 8 p.m. PT at the Orleans Arena.
 
The Toreros (19-13) won their first WCC Tournament game since 2013 when they defeated Portland 67-47 in the first round on Thursday night.
 
The game will be broadcast on multiple channels (Spectrum SportsNet/BYUtv/TheW.tv) with Dave McCann (play-by-play), Barry Tompkins (play-by-play), Blaine Fowler (analyst), Dan Belluomini (analyst), and Sammy O'Brien (reporter) on the call. Jack Cronin will provide the radio broadcast on the Mighty 1090AM App. Live statistics will be available via USDToreros.com.
 
WCC TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• USD is 6-10 in the WCC Tournament since the competition moved to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, during the 2008-09 season. The Toreros lost six straight WCC Tournament games before beating Portland on Thursday night.
 
• Prior to the win against the Pilots, the Toreros most recent victory in the WCC Tournament came on March 8, 2013, when they defeated BYU 72-69 in the quarterfinals. USD's all-time leading scorer, Johnny Dee, dropped 25 points in the win.
 
• USD beat Pepperdine, 62-59, the night before its win against BYU in its first game of the postseason. The Toreros gave Saint Mary's all it could handle in the semifinals but fell 69-66.
 
• The Toreros most recently won the WCC Tournament title during the 2007-08 season. It was the last year the tournament was hosted at a conference institution and USD won the tournament on its home floor in San Diego, defeating No. 20 Gonzaga, 69-62. USD received the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and beat Connecticut 70-69 on a buzzer beater in the first round in Tampa, Florida.
 
THE ROAD AHEAD
• USD's path to the WCC Tournament title would require five victories in six days. The Toreros path to the championship game began with 10th-seeded Portland (W, 67-47), and is followed by No. 6 Santa Clara, No. 3 BYU and No. 2 Saint Mary's.
 
• The Toreros went 2-0 against the Pilots during the regular season but will be seeking revenge against the rest of the bracket, holding a combined 0-5 record against the rest of their side of the bracket.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• San Diego shot 50 percent in the second half and dominated defensively to earn its first victory at the WCC Tournament since 2013, defeating Portland 67-47 in the first round at the Orleans Arena on Thursday night.
 
• The Toreros did not allow a Pilots basket for the first 8:53 of the second half and held them to six baskets in the period. USD pulled away offensively in the second half by knocking down 11 of its 22 shots and going 10-of-12 from the free throw line.
 
• Five Toreros player scored in double-digits, led by Isaiah Pineiro with 16. Pineiro also pulled down 10 rebounds for his 16th double-double of the season and 10th in the past 11 games.
 
• Olin Carter III and Isaiah Wright contributed 13 points apiece, while Tyler Williams and Alex Floresca each chipped in 11 points.
 
• Wright was excellent on both ends of the floor throughout the night, contributing a team-high six assists, four rebounds and four steals. He only committed two turnovers in 38 minutes of action.
 
• Williams also played 38 minutes and was two rebounds shy of a double-double. He had an efficient night of shooting, going 4-of-9 from the field.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. SANTA CLARA
• USD is 37-48 all-time against the Broncos and are 2-3 in the last five meetings.
 
• Tyler Williams scored a season-high 19 points but it was not enough to help San Diego overcome a 17-point first-half deficit as the Toreros fell 68-56 at Santa Clara on in their lone meeting earlier this season in the WCC-opener on Jan. 3.
 
TRIO EARN ALL-WCC HONORS
• Isaiah Pineiro, Olin Carter III and Isaiah Wright earned All-WCC honors. Pineiro was named to the first team for the second consecutive season, while Carter III was named to the second team and Wright claimed honorable mention recognition. It was also the second conference honors of Carter III and Wright's careers.
