SEATTLE – San Diego erased an early deficit to win its third straight match, defeating Washington 4-2 on Thursday evening at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.

The Toreros (9-3) faced an early 2-0 hole after dropping the doubles point and the first singles match. However, USD rallied for four straight singles points to claim its seventh victory in the past eight matches.

"It was a very competitive match Thursday night," said head coach
Ryan Keckley. "This team is very comfortable playing big, indoor tennis. We had some opportunities to capture the doubles point but came up a bit short. They play physical doubles and took it to us."

Guus Koevermans began the comeback effort with a clinical 6-4, 6-0, victory at No. 6 against the Huskies (3-8) Adam Torocsik.

Gui Osorio followed with a 6-4, 6-4, win against Piers Foley at No. 2. It was the third straight singles victory for Osorio and he is 5-2 in the second position this season.

August Holmgren won his fifth consecutive match, defeating Enzo Sommer, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), at No. 1. He is 5-2 in the No. 1 position and 7-3 overall on the season.

Joel Gamerov capped the comeback effort with a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, victory at No. 4 agianst Ernesto Turegano.

In singles, we found ourselves on our heals and down a break early in almost all sets," said Keckley. "We collected ourselves and got to work. I was very proud of how we handled the moment and the atmosphere. We stayed composed when things got tough and battled while not playing our best tennis. It certainly shows signs that we are maturing in the right direction."

The Toreros will look to continue their momentum Saturday at noon when they take on Gonzaga.
