SAN FRANCISCO – Gui Osorio had his run in the Battle in the Bay come to an end on Sunday with a 6-3, 7-5 loss to Mason Beiler of Oklahoma in the consolation bracket semifinals.
The senior bounced back from an opening round loss by stringing together two wins in the consolation bracket to extend his opportunity at the California Tennis Club. He finished the weekend 2-2 in singles.
Across the Battle in the Bay and Milwaukee Tennis Classic, the Toreros combined for six wins over singles and doubles, including the two in singles by Osorio and two by the Portugal native and freshman
Sacchitt Sharrma in doubles.
Sharrma and fellow freshman Martin Schaber both competed in their first two collegiate tournaments. Schaber played in two singles and doubles matches in Milwaukee.
"These last three days were great opportunities to get back to the grind and most importantly, get back into playing shape," said head coach
Ryan Keckley. "For the freshmen, it was an introduction to how competitive college tennis truly is. This weekend alone five matches came down to us not being physical or competitive enough when it mattered most. We will focus our attention this next month on being prepared mentally and physically for our next fall event."
The Toreros' next scheduled event is the Oracle ITA Masters from September 26 to 29 in Malibu, California.
