ST. PAUL, Minn. - Hannah Rasmussen continued to lead San Diego women's cross country with a top 15 finish at the Roy Griak Invitational on Saturday morning.
The women's field was stacked with multiple teams ranking in the top 25 nationally. Rasmussen remained steady throughout the race, picking up speed at the 3000m mark to work her way into the top 30. The junior emerged with a burst of speed in the final 3000m to place 13th overall with a time of 21:48.9.
"It was great to see Hannah race on such a large platform that is both historic and challenging," said head coach
Will Guarino. "She was confident and calm and came through for us. It was great to see our jersey fly so strong against teams that will compete in the NCAA Championships."
Molly Klein held steady as San Diego's second runner with a time of 22:42.1. Klein recovered after falling back five places at the one-mile mark to finish 44th overall.
Madison Lambros paced as the Toreros' third runner with a time of 22:59.7. The Florissant, Colo. native ran well in the second half of the race, climbing from 88th in the field to finish 55th overall.
Cammy Manes covered the fourth spot for San Diego, making a vital move around mile two to stay in the mix finishing 72nd overall.
Senior
Beth Wade emerged as the Toreros fifth runner this weekend with a time of 23:39.4. Wade ran well the entire length of the course moving up from the back of the pack to finish 84th overall.
The Toreros finished 11th in the team standings ahead of UC Santa Barbara, Northern Iowa, North Dakota, and WCC opponent Pacific.
"We came here for the experience, weather, and a tough course, and we got what we were looking for," said Guarino. "Now, we must get back to work and polish up some opportunities to continue growing as a team."
Up next, San Diego will travel to Riverside to compete in the Highlander Invitational. The final meet of the regular season will begin at 8 a.m. on October 19.
