Garcia and Francati Lead Successful Weekend

BERKELEY, Calif. - San Diego duo Helena Francati and Gemma Garcia won the ITA Gold Doubles Final of the Cal Berkeley Invitational on Sunday with a 8-6 top of Santa Barbara's Amit Lev-Ari and Dominika Paterova. In addition to their doubles title, the  Toreros also found success in their single's matches.

Freshman Francati had an all-around impressive collegiate debut as she navigated her way to the ITA White Singles Final and earned the title after her opponent withdrew with an injury.

Senior Garcia made it to the ITA Blue Singles Semifinals before she was bested 6-4, 6-1 by Cal's No. 1 seed and No. 24-ranked Julia Rosenqvist.

Fellow USD freshman Jessi Muljat advanced to the ITA White Semifinals before she was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Nevada's Ksenia Shikanova.

Overall the Toreros went 21-11 during the tournament, with Garcia leading the team with a 7-1 combined record during the three-day tournament.

Next up, San Diego will travel to Malibu on Wednesday for the Women's Collegiate Classic.
