SAN DIEGO – The Toreros will continue a two-game road stretch, traveling to face Pac-12 opponent California on Friday before returning to Torero Stadium to take on Cal Poly on Sunday. San Diego looks to switch gears after a double-overtime loss to Long Beach State on Labor Day.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN BEARS
San Diego (2-1-0) will take on the Golden Bears (3-0-0) on Friday at 4 p.m. (PT) in Berkeley. Cal leads the all-time record against the Toreros at 1-2-2. This will be the first meeting in nineteen years after San Diego lost on the road, 3-0, back in 2000.
Cal is coming off of a three-game winning streak to open up the 2019 season after defeating Weber State, UC Santa Barbara and San Diego State. The Bears were able to blank the Aztecs in a 2-0 win on Labor Day weekend, solidifying the program's best start to a season since 2014.
The Toreros will look to shutdown Stockholm native, Emma Westin, who has scored in all three contests for the Bears. Paige Metayer, Denae Antoine, and Luca Deza have also contributed for Cal with two goals apiece so far in 2019.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
The Toreros will return home for a matchup against Cal Poly (0-3-1) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. (PT). The contest is a part of a men's and women's soccer double header at Torero Stadium as the men take on Belmont at noon (PT).
This will be the first meeting since 2007 for both teams as the series record is dead even at 5-5-1. Three matchups have gone into overtime between the two schools with San Diego coming out victorious, 1-0, in an overtime match back in 2007. The Toreros hold home field advantage against Cal Poly with a home series record of 4-1-1.
The Mustangs have lost three straight matches on the road against Sacramento State, Utah Valley, and Utah. Cal Poly will face Pepperdine at home on Friday night before traveling to San Diego.
Brook Oleson has the sole goal for the Mustangs so far in 2019. Goalkeeper Sophia Brown has seen over 300 minutes of action and has recorded 14 saves on the season.
