STILLWATER, Okla. - Elizabeth Goldsmith and Helena Francati picked up a doubles win over a ranked opponent, but San Diego women's tennis lost to #24 Wake Forest, 4-0, on Sunday in its final match of the 12th annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

USD's freshman duo of Goldsmith and Francati took down Wake Forest's Anna Brylin and Saby Nihalani, which entered the week No. 46 in the nation, 6-1 to help put the Toreros in position to capture the doubles point. However, the Toreros fell at No. 1 and 3 in doubles to fall behind 1-0 in the match.

In singles, junior Maria Tyrina showed fight for the Toreros at No. 4. Despite going down 6-2 in the first set, Tyrina rallied back in the second, forcing No. 82 Chandler Carter to go to a tiebreaker before edging out Tyrina, 7-4.

"We started a little slow in both singles and doubles and when you play top-25 teams, that can't happen," said USD head coach Sherri Stephens. "Once we got going, we were right with them."

USD conceded all three singles matches in straight sets, losing at the No. 2, 3 and 4 positions. 

At No. 1, Solymar Colling forced the second set to a tiebreaker against Carolyn Campana but the match between two ranked opponents went unfinished. The Toreros were also up in the second set of each of the other two unfinished singles.

The Toreros return to action on Friday when they play at Arizona State at 12:30 p.m. PT.
