Toreros Add Transfer Catcher Alexis Kaiser

Kaiser will join San Diego for the 2021 season

SAN DIEGO - San Diego softball has added transfer catcher Alexis Kaiser, head coach MJ Knighten announced on Tuesday. Kaiser joins the Toreros after spending two years at Syracuse and will be immediately eligible for the 2021 season.

"I am excited to welcome AJ to our Torero family," said Knighten. "She is going to bring additional experience to our team, as well as behind the plate. After having multiple conversations with her I believe her competitive but calming approach to the game is what this team needs to keep our boat heading in the right direction."

The Tucson, Ariz. native started 52 of 57 games for the Orange over the past two seasons. Kaiser brought power to the Syracuse lineup recording a .469 career slugging percentage and leading the team with 7 homeruns during the 2019 season.

"After speaking with coach Knighten and the rest of the coaching staff, I knew I wanted to be a part of the USD softball program," said Kaiser. "The competitive and positive culture of the team is exactly what I was looking for."

Kaiser brings championship level experience to San Diego as the 2017 4A Arizona State Champion with Canyon Del Oro High School. Canyon Del Oro was ranked No. 1 in the state in 2017 with a 33-2 record.

Kaiser led the team in batting average, homeruns, RBI's and slugging percentage during the championship season and was named an All-State first team selection. During her interscholastic career, she was also named a All-Conference first team selection from 2016-2018.

Under the development of Canyon Del Oro head coach Kelly Fowler, Kaiser set the career homerun record with 34 over her four seasons while leading the team in four offensive categories.

Kaiser also adds international experience to the Toreros after competing for the Israeli National Team in the 2019 European National Championship.

Kaiser grew up playing club softball with returning infielder Rion Simms as both played with DeMarini Athletics.

Off the field, Kaiser has excelled in the classroom being named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll during her time at Syracuse and as a National Honor Society member in high school.
