SAN DIEGO --Â The Toreros (2-1) grabbed a 28-10 first-quarter lead and never trailed from there on the way to a 98-56 win over San Diego Christian inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Friday afternoon.

Six players scored in double figures, led by redshirt junior
Kendall Bird, who had a career-high 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Sophomore
Ayanna Khalfani also a career-high 16 points with two steals, while
Sydney Hunter chipped in as well with a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Toreros showed depth in their rotation with 35 points coming off the bench.

San Diego shared the ball well in Friday's game, racking up 15 assists on 34 made field goals. Hunter's three assists paced the Toreros.

San Diego forced 32 turnovers while committing only 17 themselves in Friday's game. The Toreros turned those takeaways into 35 points on the offensive end of the floor.
Erica Martinsen led the way individually with five steals.

In the first, San Diego started off hot grabbing a double-digit lead off a jump shot from
Nicole Blakes with three minute remaining in the period. San Diego would never shrink from that lead and took advantage of seven turnovers in the period, turning them into eigth points on the other end of the floor.

The Toreros defense continued to work for them in the second as the team nabbed six steals to create eight more points on the offensive end.

Khafani, Hunter and Bird led the way offensively in the third, all shooting over 40 percent from the field in the period. San Diego played well near the basket, scoring 16 of its 32 points in the paint.

Almost every player scored in the final 10 minutes as freshman
Laura Erikstrup came alive to take on eight more in the quarter. The center went 2 for 3 in the period and was clutch from the line going 4 for 4.

San Diego generated its largest lead of the game with four minutes remaining to finish out the game with a score of 98-56.
