TEMPE, Ariz. - San Diego women's basketball (2-2) shot 50 percent from deep, but fell to the Sun Devils (5-2) on the road on Sunday afternoon.

The Toreros were led by redshirt senior
Jordyn Edwards, who scored a new season-high 16 points and tacked on four steals on the afternoon. Freshman
Gabby Giuffre also had a double-digit performance with 11 points and two steals.
Kiera Oakry added eight points and two takeaways in her first start of the season.

The San Diego defense caused its share of mistakes in Sunday's game, forcing 17 Arizona State turnovers, and converting them into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Edwards' four steals led the way individually for the Toreros.

Arizona State and San Diego were in a rebounding battle on Sunday, as the Toreros were out rebounded 43-36 and only able to generate nine second chance points in the contest.

The Toreros kept pace in the first, doing most of its first quarter damage in the paint scoring 10 of its 16 points close to the basket. San Diego went on its largest scoring run of the game as the Toreros generated a 14-2 run, punctuated by two free throws from
Jordyn Edwards. The Toreros entered the second quarter up by three, 16-13.

Giuffre started the offensive attack in the second with a three-pointer from the wing in the first 15 seconds of the period. The Toreros knocked down two threes in the quarter to score six of its 14 points and entered the half down by two, 27-25.

San Diego and Arizona State kept it close in the third with back-and-forth action keeping USD within striking distance. Freshman Laura Eriksturp brought San Diego within three with six minutes to go in the period after hitting both chances at the line. Edwards and
Erica Martinsen combined with under three minutes remaining to close the gap to only two, before ASU entered the fourth up by seven.

The Toreros struggled to find their rhythm in the fourth, as Edwards,
Ayanna Khalfani and
Nicole Blakes tacked on the final offensive efforts for USD in the final minute and a half. San Diego couldn't close the gap, losing by a score of 64-55.

The Toreros are back in action on Thursday, when they'll take on Long Beach State on the road at 6 p.m. (PT).
