SAN DIEGO - San Diego (3-2) took a 21-10 first-quarter lead and did not trail from there on the way to a 75-56 win over UC Irvine (2-4) inside Jenny Craig Pavilion on Sunday afternoon.

The Toreros had three players score in double figures, led by Jordyn Edwards, who had 14 points and two steals. Junior transfer Steph Gorman added 12 points in her first game for the Toreros, while freshman Laura Erikstrup helped out with 10 points and two steals from the bench.

San Diego forced 29 UC Irvine turnovers in the contest converting them into 25 points on the other end of the floor. Sophomore Ayanna Khalfani led the way with four steals for San Diego.

After jumping out to an 8-7 advantage, the Toreros went on an 11-0 run with four and a half minutes left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 19-7. Edwards was potent in the period shooting 3-for-3 from the field and 100 percent from the line. The Toreros maintained their lead in the game's second frame and entered halftime with a 38-27 edge. Gorman and senior guard Myah Pace combined from deep in the period to knock down three three-point shots to account for nine of San Diego's 17 points.

After halftime, San Diego wasted no time building on its lead, going on a 14-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Gabby Giuffre, to expand its lead further to 52-27 with seven minutes to go in the third. The Anteaters tried to cut into that lead, but the Toreros still entered the fourth quarter with a 60-42 edge.
