Sydney Hunter, who had 13 points and three steals.
Kendall Bird added 12 points, while
Myah Pace chipped in as well with 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.

San Diego won the battle off the glass in Wednesday's game outrebounding San Francisco 33-30, led by Pace's six boards. The Toreros took advantage of second chance opportunities notching 21 second chance points off of 16 offensive boards.

The defense lifted San Diego past the Dons as USD forced 24 turnovers in the contest, turning the takeaways into 22 points on the other end of the floor. Seven players recorded at least one steal with

San Diego kept it close in the first quarter as a layup from Hunter narrowed the Dons' lead to one with six and a half to go. San Francisco pushed away to create a lead as big as 11 before a 7-0 run by the Toreros closed the gap to end the first to give USF a four-point advantage, 24-20.

The Dons kept adding to that lead, building a 26-20 edge before San Diego went on a 10-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Pace, to take a 30-26 lead. Back-and-forth action carried through the rest of the second as the Toreros entered the half with a slim two-point advantage, 34-32. San Diego dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 14 points close to the basket in the period.

After halftime, San Diego added to its advantage and owned a 49-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter. San Diego took advantage of six San Francisco turnovers in the third, scoring five points off of takeaways.

The Toreros continued to find their rhythm on the offensive side of the ball, never trailing in the fourth quarter and outscoring the Dons 12-8. Pace executed inside the paint with under three minutes remaining to give San Diego its largest lead of the game, 59-49. A layup from Bird with a minute to go secured the victory as San Diego won 61-54.
