TEMPE, Ariz. - San Diego women's tennis bounced back on Saturday by capturing its second sweep of the season with a 4-0 win over UNLV at the Whiteman Tennis Center.

USD (2-3) snapped its three-match losing streak by picking up the neutral-site win under two hours over UNLV (0-3). Straight-set wins in singles by senior Gemma Garcia and freshmen Elizabeth Goldsmith and Helena Francati lifted the Toreros.

"Nice to get a win today," said USD head coach Sherri Stephens. "Hopefully, the girls are starting to realize their potential."

The win for Garcia was her first in singles this duals season. Francati, meanwhile, remained perfect with a 3-0 record in singles as she played at No. 5 for the second match in a row.

For the second time this season, USD captured the doubles point thanks to wins at courts two and three by duos of Francati and Goldsmith and Garcia and Daniela Morales, respectively. Both pairs of Toreros won 6-2, with Francati and Goldsmith clinching the point by beating Samantha Li and Olivia Elliott.

The lone doubles loss for the Toreros was against the 28th-ranked pair in the nation, En-Pei Huang and Izumi Asano.

In singles, the Toreros started strong by taking the first set in five of the six matches

After Garcia gave the Toreros a 2-0 advantage, Goldsmith earned her first singles win since the season-opener against Nevada. The freshman topped Connie Li 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.

Francacit quickly followed her fellow freshman's win by clinching the match for the Toreros with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Elliott.

USD enters a two-week break before opening up a stretch of five straight home matches when it hosts Hawaii on Sunday, February 16 at 11 a.m.
