USD Rallies to Victory over Hawaii

San Diego- The Toreros women's tennis team came from behind to defeat Hawaii at home on Sunday, 4-3.

USD lost the doubles point after Daniela Morales and Maria Tyrina were edged out in tiebreak points, 7-6 (8-6).

In singles, Solymar Colling, Elizabeth Goldsmith, and Maria Tyrina all took their matches to three sets, each of them finishing victorious.

Even with the forced third set, Colling made swift work of Hawaii's Petra Melounova, getting into a groove in the second and third sets to finish 1-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Tied at 3-all, the win came down to Kati Kukaras' match at the no. 6 position. The match finished with a score of 7-5 (4), 7-5.

"This was a big win against a very good team. Although we didn't play our best tennis, we competed with our hearts," said head coach Sherri Stephens, "I'm looking forward to going into our next match with more confidence."

USD will face off against Long Beach State on Thursday, at 1:30 p.m.
