SAN DIEGO - After a nine-inning marathon in game one, the Toreros dropped the second game of a double header to Utah (12-2) on Monday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex.

Delaney Heller (4-6) went the distance for the Toreros in game one, pitching all nine innings and took the loss.
Madison Earnshaw (2-1) got the start in game two and took the loss, while
Courtney Rose came in in relief.

GAME ONE
The Toreros fell 6-4 in a nine-inning matchup to the Utes in a game that lasted almost three hours.

Offensively, San Diego was led by sophomore
Lauren Hendrickson, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and an RBI. Junior
Halle Kyler put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Clareese Santiago also chipped in in the DP slot for San Diego, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.

Both teams remained scoreless through two innings of work, before the Utes created a 3-0 advantage in the top of the third. The Toreros responded quickly to close out the side in the top of the next inning before the offense erupted in the bottom of the fourth.

Santiago drove a single to center field to score Silveyra from third base, and
Hayley Hensley took advantage of an error by the center fielder to put the Toreros within one. San Diego evened the score at three on an RBI-triple from Hendrickson. Kyler then kept the rally going with an RBI-double to put the Toreros ahead, 4-3.

The Utes were able to tack one on in the top of the fifth to tie it at four. Both teams remained scoreless through seven innings, before Utah executed in the top of the ninth with a two-run homerun. San Diego made contact in the bottom of the ninth but couldn't push another across.

GAME TWO
Sophomore Sydney Sandez and freshman Halle Morris combined to toss a six-inning shutout as the Utes blanked the Toreros 8-0 in game two

Offensively, the Toreros were led by senior
Madison Casiano, who went 1-for-3 in the contest.

San Diego managed zero chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position.

Hendrickson broke up Utah's no hitter bid in the bottom of the fifth with a single to left. Kyler then reached on an error by the first baseman before Utah closed out the side.

Casiano attempted to rally the Toreros in the bottom of the sixth with a single to center, but two hits right at the infield secured the Utes run-rule victory.

The Toreros are back in action on Thursday, when they will take on Long Beach State to open up the San Diego Classic at the USD Softball Complex.
