SAN DIEGO -- Though they had plenty of opportunities, San Diego (7-9) had a hard time cashing them in, leaving 10 Toreros on base in a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Beach on Thursday night at home.

Delaney Heller (4-7) started and took the loss in the circle for San Diego. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, two earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.

Offensively, the Toreros were paced by senior
Sara Silveyra, who went 2-for-2 on the day with two walks. Sophomore
Lauren Hendrickson furnished a standout night at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Junior
Hayley Hensley also helped out for San Diego, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

The Toreros were trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. San Diego got an RBI single from Hensley, scoring senior
Madison Casiano from second base.

The Toreros kept the Beach off the board before narrowing the gap further in the sixth. San Diego scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Hendrickson, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Beach. The Toreros were unable to get any closer, as Long Beach State added one run to their tally on the way to a 4-2 final.

The Toreros are back in action on Friday, when they will take on St. John's and Brown in a double header at 4:30 and 7 p.m. (PT) at the USD Softball Complex.
